In the following guide, we’ll explore how you can unlock a Solar Generator in Death Stranding 2 and what it does.

You have to haul hundreds of kilos of cargo throughout the vast open world in Death Stranding 2. And, in most cases, you’ll need to go to the destinations on foot. While Sam is a highly reliable Porter, he still requires help from some additional equipment to make those deliveries and fight off any threats along the way. For instance, Sam will be able to equip a variety of Skeletons that will augment his cargo-carrying abilities and some of his skills. However, most of such equipment will rely on batteries for power. Once the power ends, they are completely useless.
While you can improve your battery capacity, there are other ways to power your equipment. For instance, a Solar Generator will help convert the sun’s rays into energy and recharge your batteries over time. In the following guide, we’ll explore how you can unlock a Solar Generator in Death Stranding 2.
How To Get a Solar Generator in Death Stranding 2

To get a Solar Generator, you’ll first need to progress far enough in the main storyline to reach the Rainbow Valley facility. This happens during Order Number 14, where you deliver cargo to the compound and connect the facility to the Chiral Network. As an immediate reward, you will get the Tar Gun for establishing the connection. However, like all other facilities, you can earn more items by improving the connection level with the base. To do that, simply accept and complete any optional Aid Requests or Sub-Orders that the facility places.
Once you complete one or two of these optional requests from the Rainbow Valley facility, you’ll unlock connection level 2 with them. Their Prepper, Glenn Rain, will give you the schematics for the Solar Generator, which is a backpack accessory. Keep in mind that you’ll still need to craft the item before you can equip it on your backpack.
To craft it, simply follow the steps below:
- Step 1: Interact with any facility terminal.
- Step 2: Select ‘Fabrication and Management’ from the terminal menu.
- Step 3: Next, choose ‘Backpack Customizations.’
- Step 4: Click on Add and then pick the Solar Generator to craft and equip it.
You will need 100x Resin, 60x Chemicals and 80x Special Alloys to fabricate one Solar Generator.

How To Use a Solar Generator in Death Stranding 2
As the name might suggest, this particular backpack accessory will help to recharge Sam’s battery by converting solar power into usable forms of energy. This recharging ability works while it’s daytime and the skies are clear. If it’s cloudy and rainy outside, the recharge rate will be much slower.
If you want to maximize how quickly your battery recharges with the use of Solar Generators, you can craft and equip several of these at once. However, keep in mind that you have limited backpack accessory slots, so consider carefully before filling them all up with these items.
