Xuanyangzi, or the Featherly Ambition in Wuchang Fallen Feathers, is the final boss before any ending. Here’s how you can beat him.

Xuanyangzi, or the Featherly Ambition in Wuchang Fallen Feathers, is the one who tends to your wounds in the beginning. However, a bit of exposition is revealed when He Youzai, your companion, feels uneasy around him. Finally, true to the epic finale of a soulslike, the Featherly Ambition is revealed to be him, or whatever his feathered form represents. Here’s how you can beat him.
How To Reach the Featherly Ambition in Wuchang Fallen Feathers

Being the final boss of Wuchang Fallen Feathers, the Featherly Ambition Xuanyangzi is located in the Forbidden Lands of Chapter 5. However, you must locate the sun disks before unlocking this fight. Both sun disks are located in the hidden Bo Capital. They are on elevated platforms and should catch your eye in the capital’s dark caverns.
Activating both sun disks unlocks the giant gate underneath the capital, where the boss is located. Follow the path to the arena, activate the shrine, and enter. If you have completed the Old Storyteller’s questline, you will meet Dural in the Bo Capital and can summon him during the final battle.
All Featherly Ambition Xuanyangzi Boss Attacks

Xuanyangzi has two phases, with the second unlocking more moves. Here’s every move explained:
First Phase
- Leaping Slam: Xuanyangzi flies into the air and slams down suddenly, dealing area damage. Has tracking with an easy dodge window.
- Swiping Wings: The boss swipes his wings at close range, dealing high damage and knockback. It’s easy to hit him while he performs this move.
- Claw Stomp: Xuanyangzi stomps the ground with his leg. He pulls his legs up slowly (cue), then usually executes another move.
- Soaring Lightning: The boss flies and calls upon red thunder strikes to hit the player, ending in a ground slam. The bolts are easy to dodge, but the slam has good tracking, so be wary when he descends.
- Charged Wing Spin: Xuanyangzi suddenly starts spinning, then spins faster the second time. If he stops suddenly during the fight, he will usually use this move, and you will have a small window to start running away.
- Sword Beam: The Featherly Ambition’s sword glows red and fires a blast that deals high damage. Typically, he does this twice, and the sword thrust also counts as a hitbox for damage.
- Wing Slash: The boss uses his wings to slash forward twice, with the second attack slightly delayed. This move has a long range and is used when the boss is far from the player.
- Charged Sword Beam: This attack is the same as the sword beam, but with a charged animation. It deals a lot of damage but can be dodged due to its long animation.
Second Phase
The second phase of the Featherly Ambition in Wuchang Fallen Feathers begins when he is at half HP and includes enhanced moves:
- Tidal Waves: At the beginning of the second phase, waves sweep across the arena and your screen, making it hard to see. This occurs only once in the fight.
- Soaring Sword Slash Enhanced: The boss leaps into the air with his enhanced sword, striking when he lands. He has a greater range than his normal sword slash.
- Sword Slash Fireballs: Xuanyangzi swings his sword in two directions while chanting fireballs that track the player. The fireballs summon after the first strike.
- Water Spout: Spouts burst forth after the boss stands still. The geysers have tracking and summon underneath the player in the arena.
- Feathering Release: Xuanyangzi covers himself with wings and unleashes many projectiles at the player.
How To Beat Xuanyangzi in Wuchang Fallen Feathers

Xuanyangzi’s move set consists mostly of long-range attacks that will probably hit you regardless of your position in the arena. It is advised to stay close and behind him as much as possible when fighting. He will try to maintain distance, but his hitbox is large enough to chase and attack while he tries to get away.
The second phase is more difficult as his attacks are now area-based, and projectiles fly across your screen. Visually, it can be hard to notice what he’s doing, but his charged attacks give you enough time to heavy attack and deal significant damage. Echo of the Bo Magus helps you play defensively and cancel the projectile damage he throws at you.
The NPC Duryal can be summoned during this fight to help you, although he will likely survive only until the start of the second phase. He runs straight into the water spouts, which instantly take him down.
Rewards After Beating Featherly Ambition

- Plumed Grace: The one-handed sword used by the Boss.
- Fa-Blood Magic Rune: Increases Wuchang’s Spell damage after she takes damage for a short duration.
