Infinity Nikki announced a Stardew Valley collaboration event arriving on September 1, 2025. The crossover event between two cozy game titles sounds good on paper. However, this event received mixed reactions from fans. While some players are excited about the event, others have expressed frustration.

With that said, the community is actually not angry about the Infinity Nikki x Stardew Valley collab. Rather, what’s causing the frustration is InFold’s recent decisions. This includes controversial updates and the heavy-handed response to in-game leaks.

Why Are Fans Upset With Infinity Nikki Developers?

The frustration stems from the update releases of Infinity Nikki that fans were unsatisfied with. The Version 1.5 update, titled “Bubble Season,” was notorious for arriving with bugs, story retcons, and predatory monetization changes. This resulted in a backlash from the community, with many claiming that the game lost its earlier appeal. The game did receive updates that addressed some issues. However, these fixes did not resolve every concern that players had.

On top of that, InFold made an X post reacting to the in-game leaks that data miners were sharing in the community. The post included an in-game item called the “Punding Hammer,” which was understood to be a symbol urging players to hammer down every illegal leak.

The in-game description of the item says the following:

“There are moments when one’s hands itch, eager to raise a mighty hammer toward a certain target.”

This left a bad taste in the community, as it came across as more passive-aggressive than constructive.

The developers often don’t reveal new outfits or major updates early before the set launch date. This led to data miners sharing leaks of upcoming updates and content. These leaks help players prepare for what’s to come and decide whether to use their already limited resources on the next content or wait for a later update. With that said, it’s understandable that some players prefer to see these leaks to make informed decisions.

The Infinity Nikki x Stardew Valley Collab Backlash

Going back to the Infinity Nikki x Stardew Valley collab, no one is upset about the event itself. In fact, many players are genuinely excited to see what outfits or content will arrive on September 1, 2025. What they are upset about is the timing of this collaboration event. Some players suggest that this update is being used as a distraction to divert attention from the game’s underlying problems instead of addressing them directly.

ConcernedApe, the developer of Stardew Valley, made a statement regarding the backlash.

“There have been a few collaborations between Stardew Valley and other games over the years. To be clear, I never receive any money from these collabs. I’ve only done them because I was a fan of the other games, or because I genuinely thought the players would like it.”

InFold chimed in on this post and apologized to ConcernedApe.

“We really appreciate you sharing your feelings on this. Any unintended stress was the last thing we wanted. It was our way of saying thanks—a free love letter to Stardew Valley from our team and for the community. Working on it felt like we were all tending a little farm together. The care and detail you pour into your world is exactly why we want to make cozy games too. We’re still learning from you every day.”

With that said, ConcernedApe might genuinely be unaware of the recent issues fans have with Infinity Nikki. This collaboration was simply an innocent way to celebrate the spirit of cozy gaming and cross-community love.
