The new 9-star Investigations are easily the most substantial update Monster Hunter Wilds has received since its launch, at least when it comes to the endgame. While the base game did offer plenty of content up until High Rank, the endgame of vanilla Monster Hunter Wilds was incredibly lackluster. However, with 9-star Investigations, the game now has something to keep players occupied with said endgame. Naturally, the 9-star monsters are significantly more powerful than their 8-star (3-strength) counterparts. However, considering the increased difficulty of the 9-star monsters, is it really worth going through the hassle of hunting them?

The answer to this question is yes, albeit with some major caveats. Here’s everything you need to know about the 9-star monsters and the rewards they offer.

With the 9-star Investigations, Capcom has also added a new resource to the game, Glowing Stones. The Glowing Stones are essentially appraisal items, akin to Artian Parts and Decorations, which you obtain at the end of a hunt. Furthermore, the Glowing Stones can be appraised to get RN Talismans, which offer multiple randomized skills, as well as additional Decoration slots. Suffice it to say, the 9-star Investigation rewards are incredibly lucrative, from a build crafting standpoint. You not only get multiple skills within the same Talisman, but also additional Decoration slots for your build.

Furthermore, the Decoration slots on the Talismans aren’t bound to weapon or armor skills. You can essentially use Decorations with either weapon or armor skills on the Talisman. And much like the regular Talismans in Monster Hunter Wilds, the RNG Talismans are available in multiple rarities. The higher the rarity, the better the stats and Decoration slots. The only downside to the RNG Talismans is that they’re tied exclusively to the 9-star Investigations. Naturally, 9-star monsters are significantly more challenging than regular Tempered Monsters.

That said, with the new update, Capcom has added a few QoL features that can help you get the necessary boost for the 9-star hunts. Firstly, there’s a new upgrade tier for all Rarity 8 armor sets. As such, you can get a substantial defense buff by simply upgrading your armor. In addition to that, all weapon types have received upward balance changes. As such, you should be able to dish out more damage using certain weapon combos.
