Fans have been speculating about when Baldur’s Gate 4 will finally be announced. Considering how popular the third installment is, it’s understandable that fans would want a sequel as soon as possible. This conversion stayed on speculative grounds until recently.

Wizards of the Coast president, John Hight, briefly mentioned in a video interview with The Game Business that Baldur’s Gate 4 will happen. However, it’s not releasing anytime soon as they have other priorities for now.

Hight shared what their plans are for Dungeons and Dragons. During the interview, he briefly touched upon the potential release of Baldur’s Gate 4. According to him, it is happening, but it’s not the game they are currently working on.

“Baldur’s Gte is an incredible game. And of course, we’re going to do a successor to that game. This is not the successor to that game.”

Hight is referring to the upcoming game they are working on with another game development studio. News about a new game set in the D&D universe has been announced previously.

The game is said to be made by Giant Skull, the developers behind games like Star Wars: Jedi Survivor and God of War 3. This led to fans speculating that it might be Baldur’s Gate 4. However, Hight debunked these claims, stating that it’s a different game. Nonetheless, he shared that the upcoming title should appeal to fans of D&D.

“We go to Stig [Asmussen] and his team to tell an incredible story and bring D&D to a very broad audience. Ideally, the game will appeal to D&D players because it will help them realise their imagination. But it’s also going to hopefully appeal to people that love playing action games, that love the Jedi games, that love God of War games.”

While fans did get the confirmation they wanted, they’ll have to wait quite a while for the sequel. There is no information about the production of Baldur’s Gate 4 so far. Details about which game development studio will handle the sequel remain under wraps. With that said, Hight’s statement is assurance enough for fans that they will eventually get the sequel they wanted. They’ll just have to keep staying patient and keep their eyes peeled for more updates in the future.
