Bamboo Strikes in Ghost of Yotei allow players to increase Atsu’s Maximum Spirit if completed perfectly. The mechanic returns from Ghost of Tsushima, where it increases Jin Sakai’s Resolve.
Atsu’s Spirit is primarily used to heal her. Once you have unlocked the required techniques, you can also use them to perform special attacks. With more spirits at hand, you have more chances to heal and deal damage in combat.

How the Bamboo Strike Challenge Works
The Bamboo Strike challenge serves as a trial and see how accurate Atsu’s strikes are. You must do a clean slice by pressing the right buttons on the bamboo shoots to succeed in this test. Sometimes, bamboo shoots can fly off as you cut them. You will have to do another clean cut by pressing the right button before they drop on the ground. You’ll know it will go flying as the bamboo shoot will be slightly elevated from the rest of the platform. Needless to say, it’s basically a quick-time event minigame.
You can find these Bamboo Strike challenges scattered throughout the map. However, some of them can also be encountered while doing other quests. Keep an eye out for these challenges while out exploring. Sometimes, there will be NPCs training in front of the Bamboo Strike challenges so you can spot them easily.
All Bamboo Strikes Locations in Ghost of Yotei
Here is a list of all the Bamboo Atrikes you can find in Ghost of Yotei. Refer to the maps shown below for the locations indicated by the red circle. This is to make it easier for you to track down each location.
Mountain Trail
This challenge is located at Hanbei’s house near the Mountain Trail. It is part of The Way of Dual Katana questline, and you learn the dual-welding technique.
Yotei River
You can find this Bamboo Strike challenge by heading to the top of a small cliff. Said cliff is overlooking a massive field surrounded by trees.
Nupur River
It’s near a settler’s camp. It’s tucked away in a clearing that is bordered by dense shrubs. You’ll see someone wielding his own katana trying to cut it. Approach them and they will let you try the challenge yourself.
Home (Father’s Bamboo Strike)
The Bamboo Strike is beside the Home marker on the map, perched right along the cliff’s edge. It’s called the Father’s Bamboo Strike, and you need to fix it first before you can do the challenge.
Misty Valley
Walk through the bamboo maze during The Spider Lily General quest. It’s beside a lamp post.
Huranui’s Rest Inn
It’s near the inn, just inside a small enclosed area, surrounded by a fence.
Niikappu’s Fork
This Bamboo Strike challenge is just on top of a hill.
Matsumae Encampment
It’s inside the encampment. You can access it during The Oni quest.
Urara
Right outside the Oni’s Breath inn. There will be various NPCs with Oni masks watching you do this challenge.
Rumoi River
Head inside the camp. Make your way up to the top of a hill to find the Bamboo Strike challenge. Interact with the NPC training in front of the bamboo shoots.
Sakuru
Head north of Sakuru Woods as indicated in the red marker shown above. Climb a rocky hill and reach the peak. Just a few distance is the Sakuru Bamboo Strike area.
Hakodake
Make your way up the peak of the snowy mountain. You’ll find the Bamboo Strike at the cliff.
Sarobetsu
In a small camp in a snowy clearing northeast of Surubetsu Lake.
Atago
Just north of Atago Rice Fields in a small camp surrounded by sakura trees.
Matsumae
You can find the Bamboo Strike challenge in the castle grounds. There will be guards standing by near the area and will watch you do the challenge.
