After the final release of Hades 2, you can finally pet Cerberus, the three-headed dog. Here’s how you can pet it.
The early release of Hades 2 did not allow the pet dog(s), Cerberus, to be petted by Melinoe. However, in the final 1.0 release of the game, things have changed. The pets plus Cerberus can finally be petted. But, there are some conditions to fulfill before you can fluff some hair on the Underworld’s guardian. Hades 1 had a feature where Zagreus was allowed to petting by Cerberus, but for some reason, Melinoe was constantly rejected since last year of the early access release. Here’s how you can pet Cerberus in Hades 2.
Can You Pet Cerberus in Hades 2?
Yes, you can finally pet Cerberus in Hades 2, but on one condition. You have to finish the game’s main story and reach the ending, only then will Cerberus will allow you some good boy pets. This feature has been requested since day one from the Hades 2 community, and the devs, who are known to pay attention to what the community wants and does not, remained silent throughout its early access days. No one knew why Cerberus couldn’t be petted.
Cerberus appears as a region boss in the Fields of Mourning, an early region of the Underworld. He is found in an enraged state, all credit to Chronos, the game’s antagonist. After you defeat it, it reverts to its normal state and can be found in Tartarus. The underworld guardian is found in the same room as Hades. If you haven’t finished the game, you can still interact, but cannot pet.
But now, with the official 1.0 release of Hades 2 that unlocks the endings and extra quests in the game, we know why we, the mascot dog of the Underworld, rejected Melinoe with such fervor. You do not receive any kind of buff from petting Cerberus, as they are an NPC character from the first game.
Are There Other Pet Companions in Hades 2?
There are pet familiars in Hades 2 that can be discovered later on that will allow countless pets to Melinoe.
There are five pets in the game, namely:
- Frinos the Frog
- Toula the Cat
- Hecuba the Hound
- Gale the Polecat
- Raki the Raven
These pets provide extra buffs and will help you in battle, or gather items for you. You can only bring one pet during a run, and they can be petted too.
