Ghost of Yotei: All Puzzle Box Locations and Rewards

In this guide, we’ll explore all of the Nine Tails puzzle box locations in Ghost of Yotei, and what you get from each of them.

In the course of the game, you’ll have to reach twelve Nine Tails puzzle box locations in Ghost of Yotei. Each of these boxes holds valuable rewards, ranging from coins to gears and other items. So, you’ll want to track them all down. Fortunately, you don’t have to look for them through the game’s expansive map, as all of these boxes are within Teshio Ridge, which is the fifth zone to unlock.

In the following guide, we’ll explore the location of each of these boxes and how you can reach them. We’ll also present the solution to each of the boxes.

All Puzzle Box Locations in Ghost of Yotei

Out of the 12 puzzle boxes, you’ll get 7 while visiting Yotei Six Camps, 4 from Kitsune Altars, and 1 from the corpse in the wild. Here’s a detailed look at the locations and how to get them.

Sakura Woods	Corpse	Go to the location on the map around the ‘r’ of Sakura. Find the corpse under a wooden structure, and loot the box from him.
Sentinel Forest	Kitsune Altar	Just southeast of Sentinel Forest Camp, a snowy pathway leads to the Kitsune Altar, where the puzzle box is.
Shipwreck Shoal	Kitsune Altar	Move along the easternmost road alongside the Shipwreck Shoal coast. You’ll find the Kitsune Altar and the box along the rocky cliff here.
Sarobetsu Forest	Kitsune Altar	Just head north from the word ‘Sarobetsu’ on the map to locate the Kitsune Altar up a sloping pathway. Pick up the box from the altar.
Teshio Coast	Kitsune Altar	Travel to the easternmost side of the Teshio Coast and look for a snowy slope leading up to the Kitsune Altar and the puzzle box on it.
Crossroads Trading Post	Yotei Six Camp	Head inside the enemy camp and eliminate all of the enemies there. Pick up the box from the Altar of Reflection here.
Snow Drift Springs Hideout	Hidden Yotei Six Camp	Reach the Snow Drift Springs Shrine in the Crimson Forest. Light the correct fox lanterns to gain entry into the hideout. In the first puzzle, light the lantern on the left. In the right row, light the far right fox lantern. In the third puzzle, light the middle lantern. Clear the camp of all enemies. Finally, solve another fox lantern puzzle. Light the leftmost lantern and the second one from the right. A rope will drop, and you can use it to reach the puzzle box and Altar of Reflection.
Snow’s Blight Hideout	Hidden Yotei Six Camp	Start from Snow’s Blight Shrine. Light the braziers that have lit lanterns behind them on the left. On the right, rotate the fox statues to align them with the engravings on the wall. After that, carry both fox statues to the door, and enter through the crawlspace that opens up. Kill all enemies inside the hideout and then climb to reach the Altar of Reflection, where the box is.
Nakajima Ice Cave Hideout	Hidden Yotei Six Camp	Head to Nakajima Ice Cave, and rotate the foxes at the gate to face away from the door. Crawl inside and then grapple up. Use fox statues along the way to reveal ladders and ropes that lead further up. At the back right corner of the camp, rotate the two fox statues so they face each other. Now, cross the rope to the puzzle box.
Deserted Village	Yotei Six Camp	Clear the camp of all foes and pick up the puzzle box from the Altar of Reflection.
Soya Port	Yotei Six Camp	Rescue the prisoner and then eliminate all enemies. After that, pick up the puzzle box from the Altar of Reflection.
Cape Inari Hideout	Hidden Yotei Six Camp	At Cape Inari Shrine, light the two fox lanterns that have the trident symbol on them. A door will open when you do. Head inside and light two more trident fox lanterns while avoiding lanterns having the exclamation mark. Head deeper into the camp, and eliminate all enemies. Next, light the bridge-side fox lanterns to spawn more ropes. You can use these to reach the altar and the puzzle box.

All Puzzle Box Types and Rewards

Each puzzle box you pick up is a different type, and their solutions vary based on the type. However, you don’t get a specific type of puzzle box from a specific location. Instead, the game determines the puzzle box type based on the order you pick them up in. For instance, the third puzzle box you pick up will always be a Fascinating Box, regardless of whether you got it from a Kitsune Altar or from the dead body.
