The Crimson Kimono in Ghost of Yotei is a Myth Quest that you can take on when you’re in Teshio Ridge. Even though the quest itself is optional, we suggest completing it, as you’ll walk away with a neat armor once you’re done. So, with that in mind, here’s a complete guide on how to start and complete the Crimson Kimono quest in the game.
How To Start Crimson Kimono in Ghost of Yotei
When you’re in Teshio Ridge, find the storyteller Ugetsu at the Mother Daughter Tree. To reach this place, travel to the Sakuru Woods region. You’ll notice a tree with orange leaves, and Ugetsu sitting right underneath it. Go up and speak to him to learn of the myth quest. He tells you about a mother and daughter who lived long ago. The father abused both of them, which is why the mother created a special armor, the Crimson Kimono, which would hide her daughter and protect her from harm.
However, that same night, the father killed the mother in a fit of drunkenness. The daughter, wearing the special armor, returned to find and avenge her mother and slit her father’s throat. For years, the father’s clan sent their best warriors to find and kill the daughter, but they all perished. With all of her enemies gone, the daughter lived out the rest of her days alone. She built snow sculptures dedicated to her mother. Ugetsu feels these sculptures could lead one to the legendary armor.
How To Complete Crimson Kimono in Ghost of Yotei
After speaking with Ugetsu, examine the snow sculpture to the left of the storyteller. Start following the red Yuki Mushi (butterfly-like creatures) from the sculpture to reach an abandoned campsite nearby. Find the scroll here, and read it. It’ll point to the daughter having travelled to a Mother Daughter Tree in the eastern Hakodake Mountains.
Reach the Hakodake Mountains
Travel north from your current position to reach the exact spot in the Hakodake Mountains where the tree is. Here, go up to the orange tree once again, and find the snow sculpture nearby. A swarm of Yuki Mushi bugs will appear near the statue. You’ll need to follow them once more.
Survive the Ambush
After following the bugs for a while, a few shinobi will suddenly spring an attack on you. You’ll need to defeat them all before you can follow the Yuki Mushi once more. At this point, handling the enemies shouldn’t be too much of a problem for you. However, beware of their surprise attack, as they’ll remain well hidden until the very last moment.
Once the enemies are down, follow the insects once more to reach an abandoned shack. Explore the shack to find another note, which now points you to the mountains just north of the Teshio River.
Explore the Old Home
The location you’ll need to reach is southwest from where you are. Head there to find another Mother Daughter Tree and another snow sculpture. Follow the bugs this time around as well and reach a small entrance you can crawl through. Keep following the Yuki Mushi from the cave you entered to another one. After a while, you’ll reach an old home. Enter the house and take the ladder up to find a note that leads you to the location of the final snow sculpture.
Claim the Crimson Kimono
The final sculpture is near the house, on the frozen stream. As you might expect, when you approach the sculpture, you’ll find the red bugs one last time. Follow them yet again to reach the grave of the mother from Ugetsu’s story. Inspect the stones right next to the grave to bring Crimson Kimono in Ghost of Yotei to an end. You will get the legendary armor, Crimson Kimono, for your troubles.
Crimson Kimono Armor Stats
The armor has the following effects:
- You can now perform Chain Assassination with kunai.
- Enemy detection reduced by a major amount.
- You can initiate Kusarigama Assassination from a greater distance. The distance increase is minor.
You can upgrade the armor thrice to improve on these effects.
