Ghost of Yotei: A Haunted Land Quest Walkthrough

Learn how to complete A Haunted Land in Ghost of Yotei, including all quest steps, Kusarigama training, and final rewards.

You might think the story ends once the credits roll, but the post-game quest, A Haunted Land, proves there’s a lot more to explore in Ghost of Yotei. The quest becomes available automatically once the credits and final cutscene are over, so you don’t have to look for it in your quest list right away.

When the post-game section begins, head to Teshio Ridge, a new region that opens during The Kitsune main quest. From there, make your way toward Owl Mountain in the northern part of the ridge. Watch out for a golden bird that appears nearby, as it will guide you straight to Master Enomoto’s location.

Follow the wind indicators until you reach a small bridge marked by wooden owl and bear statues. You will find Enomoto in the middle of a fight, killing a member of the Nine Tails clan. Once you approach him, the A Haunted Land quest begins.

The whole quest will take roughly eight to twelve hours, given how much you explore or revisit side areas. In this article, we will explore everything you need to know about A Haunted Land in Ghost of Yotei.

Steps To Finish A Haunted Land in Ghost of Yotei

A Haunted Land quest has four main parts that build on each other.

1. The Way of the Kusarigama (Part 1)

After you meet Master Enomoto, he will ask for help to finish off the remaining Nine Tails enemies nearby. You can choose stealth or open combat based on your playstyle. When the area is clear, he will agree to train you and give you your first Kusarigama lesson.

Pick up the Kusarigama from the Owl Statue to start the tutorial. You will go through a few short tasks, such as cutting bamboo stalks with R1 and breaking pots held by bear statues with R2. Once that’s done, test your weapon on a group of Nine Tails enemies in the next section.

Next, follow Enomoto’s directions to reach his dojo. In the route, you have to balance on wooden beams and climb rocks. So, move carefully to avoid falling. At the dojo, you will learn the Ferocious Whirlwind technique, a wide attack that hits multiple enemies at once.

After the lesson, Enomoto tells you to take a cold bath in a nearby pool to strengthen your mind. Once morning arrives, you will spar with him using everything you have learned. The session ends when you use your Spyglass to locate more Nine Tails forces. It also unlocks the Path of the Kusarigama quest.

2. The Way of the Kusarigama (Part 2)

Next, you have to clear two Nine Tails hideouts and free any captured civilians.

One is Snow Drift Springs Hideout, located west of the Crimson Forest. To enter here, you have to solve a small puzzle before fighting through several enemies. Free the prisoners to complete this area.

Soya Port is northeast of the Sarufutsu River. Similar to the first hideout, you will need to eliminate all Nine Tails enemies and rescue hostages before claiming victory.

Once you finish both, head to an Altar of Reflection to gain a new Kusarigama skill. This concludes the section and unlocks The Kusarigama’s Shame.

3. The Path of the Kusarigama

Next, you have to return to the dojo to learn another technique called Claw and Talon. This advanced move will expand your range of Kusarigama attacks. Once training is over, follow Enomoto as he confronts his grandson, who has sided with the Nine Tails. You will have to defeat him and his allies in a tough, emotional battle.

After this, Enomoto will challenge you to prove your mastery of the Kusarigama. To pass the challenge, find every Altar of Reflection in Ezo and unlock all Kusarigama skills. Once you have collected them all, go back to the dojo and strike the stone statue to complete the challenge. This opens the final phase, A Land Reforged.

4. The Kusarigama’s Shame and A Land Reforged

Your last task is to liberate all remaining Nine Tails hideouts across the map. Some hideouts include fox-themed puzzles involving torches or rotating statues. Once every stronghold is cleared, meet Enomoto at Red Crane Inn.

Talk to him to watch the closing cutscene resolving his story with his grandson. Afterward, speak to the villagers you have helped during your journey. Their dialogue reflects your progress through the quest.

A Haunted Land Quest Rewards

Once you finish the A Haunted Land quest, you will get the Kusarigama, great for crowd control and breaking shields. Next, you will receive the A Path of Flowers dye for your Shamisen, which you can collect from the Black Dye Merchant after the quest.

Additionally, you will have access to two more post-game storylines: The Winter Farms (Hana’s quest) and Secrets of the Heart (Taizo’s quest). These side quests offer rewards such as the Charm of Burning Blades and Charm of Raining Arrows.
