Learn how to complete Bold Kaji Forge in Ghost of Yotei, free Kotetsu, and claim rewards while exploring Ishikari Plain.
You will find the Bold Kaji Forge quest waiting for you in Ghost of Yotei once you reach the Ishikari Plain region. The forge sits near Nakagoya Spring, west of Horokanai Bluffs, and it’s hard to miss since it’s marked with red ink on your map. That red mark means the area is under Yotei Six control. You don’t have to talk to anyone to begin the mission.
The quest kicks off automatically as soon as you get close to the camp. It’s part of “The Path of the Yari” Sensei Tale, so make sure you have already started the main story, The Oni, before coming here. The forge itself stands northeast of Ishikari Castle and is easy to spot thanks to the big central furnace and the cluster of enemy guards. Your main goal here is to rescue Kotetsu, a weaponsmith who’s being held captive. What makes this task more personal is that Kotetsu’s family has ties to Atsu’s father, which adds a bit of heart to the mission.
Steps To Finish Bold Kaji Forge in Ghost of Yotei

As soon as you walk into the camp area, the quest begins automatically. You will hear the sound of metal being hammered before you even see anything; that’s Kotetsu at work. Follow the sound, and you will find him in the middle of the camp, near the large forge.
Free Kotetsu
Try to handle this part quietly. There’s a single guard watching over Kotetsu. Sneak up behind and take him out with a silent kill. Once he’s down, press R2 to free Kotetsu. You will get a short dialogue where he asks for help taking back his forge, which sets the next part in motion.
Fight for the Forge
The moment you free him, the enemies will come at you. Kotetsu joins the fight, too, so you will have some backup. Stay close to him because if he goes down, it could mess up the quest. You will face a mix of Oni Raiders and Saito’s soldiers, so watch for red-glint attacks that can’t be blocked; dodging is your best option.
You can use the forge’s layout to your advantage. There are plenty of spots to take cover or gain the high ground for ranged attacks. If you like a more tactical approach, stick to stealth. But if you prefer a full-on fight, go right in; just keep Kotetsu alive.
Clear the Camp
Once you have defeated every enemy, a short cutscene shows the forge being liberated. The hostile zone turns friendly again, with villagers slowly returning and Kotetsu taking his place at the forge. From this point on, the area becomes a safe zone where you can interact with him and use his blacksmithing services.
Bold Kaji Forge Quest Rewards
Finishing this quest gives you more than just experience. You earn useful items and a few story-related bonuses that make it worth the effort.
Main Rewards
- Altar of Reflection: You will find yourself standing near this altar after the battle. Use it to gain a skill point and unlock new Yari techniques.
- Charm of Cannon Steps: This Minor Melee Charm gives you a +5 Melee bonus and lets Yari’s Typhoon Kick sometimes stagger enemies instantly. You can improve it further by staggering Sickle-wielding enemies, boosting the effect each time.
Extra Collectible
Don’t forget to check the area after the fight. On the left side of the big forge, there’s a small ledge with a reward cache. Inside is From Lord Saito Missive, a note that offers more details about Lord Saito’s mindset and role in the region’s conflict. If you are aiming for full completion, you should grab this.
