How to Get Derivation Cloak in Baldur’s Gate 3
You can loot the Derivation Cloak from the Heavy Chest (X: -131 Y: -175) in Balthazar’s chambers on the First Floor of Moonrise Towers during Act 2. Moonrise Towers is a fortress on the southwest side of the Act 2 map in Shadow-Cursed Lands.
If you want to buy and obtain the Derivation Cloak in Act 2 of Shadow Cursed Lands, head southwest from your starting point. However, be warned that navigating the dangerous area can be challenging without additional protection against the shadow course.
We recommend that you first go to Last Light Inn in the north to receive Selune’s blessing or Moonlantern from Isobel, which will provide you with the necessary protection. Alternatively, you can defeat Kar’niss at Ruined Battlefield. If you manage to save Dolly Dolly Dolly from Kar’niss, a pixie trapped in the Moonlantern, you’ll receive the Pixie Blessing and will never have to worry about the effects of the course again.
Next, head to the far southwest side of the map to find Moonrise Towers. Only if you approach Absolute worshipers in a friendly manner, you will be able to speak with everyone and check the merchants’ stock who found their shelter in the fortress. That includes the ability to search the first floor of the Moonrise Towers to find the Derivation Cloak in the chest in Balthazar’s chambers.
Find the Derivation Cloak in Balthazar’s chambers
To access Balthazar’s chambers, you will need a key from Disciple Z’rell. You can find her by going through the large doors—they are marked as the ” Absolute’s Door.” Once inside, you’ll find a throne room. To either side of the throne are staircases that come together in the center. Go up either side and all the way up to the first floor. At the top landing, turn to the left to find Disciple Z’rell.
An automatic dialogue scene will start. She will share information about a lost relic that the General requires. Apparently, someone was sent to retrieve it but hasn’t returned. Ask her for details, and she will give you the key to Balthazar’s chambers.
Balthazar’s chambers are on the northeast side of the first floor, accessible through the library. If you have a key from Disciple Z’rell the room should be easy to open. Alternatively, you can pick the lock to get there.
The Derivation Cloak will be hidden in a heavy chest in the middle of the room just next to the desk. (X: -131 Y: -175)
