Everything you need to know about the Arcane Orb in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, including the weapon’s perks, Class, and more.
The Arcane Orb is one of the new weapon types in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. As the name suggests, the Arcane Orb is a weapon type meant for the Mage Class (Specialization). However, compared to the previous Dragon Age titles, Mages in The Veilguard function a tad differently. Instead of relying solely on ranged spells, Mages in Dragon Age: The Veilguard are capable of close-quarter combat. Although the bulk of the damage dealt by the Mage archetype still comes from those incredibly powerful ranged spells, the class does have options to deal with enemies in close range. This is precisely where the Arcane Orb comes into play.
The Arcane Orb is essentially the primary close-range option for Mages in The Veilguard. While the weapon isn’t nearly as powerful as its long-range cousins, i.e., the Arcane Staff or the Scepter, the Arcane Orb is capable of dealing a ton of damage. Furthermore, it has a distinct advantage over the Arcane or Elemental Staves – a shorter cooldown.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Arcane Orb in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
Arcane Orb in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Explained
Arcane Orbs in Dragon Age: The Veilguard are Mage weapons that specialize in close-quarter combat. Unlike the Arcane/Elemental Staves or the Scepter weapon types, the Arcane Orb is primarily used for close-range combat. While the weapon still operates with a cooldown (spells), it has a distinct advantage over the Staves and Scepters in The Veilguard. Compared to the long-range Mage weapons, the spell cooldown for the Arcane Orb is significantly lower, making it viable against mobs of enemies. Furthermore, the Arcane Orb serves as a great alternative to the Mage-oriented melee weapons, such as the Spellblades or the Mageknives.
Similarly to the Arcane Staff, the Arcane Orb has an Elemental variant – the Elemental Orb. As the name suggests, the Elemental Orb specializes in elemental spells. It’s a great option for Mages who want to focus on elemental damage. The Arcane Orb, on the other hand, is perfect for players looking for a more tactical close-combat option, while still sticking to spells for damage. Both the Arcane and Elemental Orbs provide options for players to experiment with when going for the Mage class.
