Find out how to customize and recreate your Inquisitor character from the previous game in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
One of the highlights of the Dragon Age series for players has been the impact that your choices during the game can make on the world of Thedas. Your choices can greatly impact the ending and even how your companions continue on. Furthermore, these choices can be seen again in the next Dragon Age game. With each new installment, there has typically been a way for players to import old game saves directly or by using Dragon Age Keep. However, for Dragon Age: The Veilguard BioWare is changing the format, giving you a way to customize your Inquisitor within the character creation process. Therefore, this guide will take a look at all of the steps involved in bringing your Inquisitor to life, and the other choices from Inquisition that will impact the current state of Thedas.
The Inquisitor in Dragon Age: The Veilguard
In the third game of the franchise, Dragon Age: Inquisition, players created their own avatar which became the Herald of Andraste. The mark on your hand was the only magic that could close the rifts that brought demons into the world. You and a close inner circle reformed the Inquisition, with the ultimate goal of closing the great rift and restoring peace.
In time, as your power grew, you became the leader of the Inquisition, with the official title of the Inquisitor. Gathering influence and allies, you rallied an army. Reaching your goal of closing the breach and stopping the darkspawn Corypheus.
Despite this ultimate success, however, one of your companions revealed themselves to be an elven god in disguise. Solas, a former Inquisition mage, now believes that he must tear down the veil between worlds. Consequently, letting the fade and Thedas become one. He vanishes, and the Inquisitor sets out to find him.
How to Customize the Inquisitor
After you have gone through all of the steps to create your playable character ‘Rook’ in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, you will get the chance to customize your Inquisitor. This will allow you to choose the Inquisitor’s gender, race, appearance, and first name.
Here are all of the steps to customizing your Inquisitor in Dragon Age: The Veilguard:
- Set your Inquisitor’s gender and race
- Modify their appearance
- Choose their name
Inquisitor Lineage
The Lineage UI screen is where you will first set your Inquisitor’s gender and race. Your gender choice of Man or Woman can be made at the top of the screen.
Secondly, you can select from one of four playable races for your Inquisitor. Like in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, you can choose between Human, Elf, Dwarf, and Qunari. If you haven’t played Inquisition, do note that your choice of race and gender will impact the Friendship and Romance selection later on. For example, if you are a female human, you cannot say that your Inquisitor romanced Solas during the game.
Inquisitor Appearance and Name
Next, in the Appearance screen, you will need to choose one from five different presets. This will give you the base look of your Inquisitor. However, once you have chosen this preset if you wish to make additional changes, just click on the Customize button on the right. From there, you will be able to modify the appearance of your Inquisitor using the exact same character creation sliders that you did for Rook.
Once you have the appearance set just the way you want, head to the Finalize screen. Here you can change the first name of your Inquisitor. The last name is set by the lineage you selected and cannot be altered. Then, you can choose from one of two voices for your Inquisitor.
Now you will need to officially Finalize your Inquisitor. This will set the appearance and lineage of your Inquisitor, and change the screen so that you now Customize the World State.
Setting Choices from Inquisition in Dragon Age: The Veilguard
For many players, bringing over the choices they made while playing Inquisition into the world of Dragon Age: The Veilguard will be one of the most important steps they make during character creation. There are three major choices you will need to make. Who the Inquisitor romanced, the fate of the Inquisition, and how the Inquisitor planned to face Solas.
Here are all the choices you can bring over from Inquisition into Dragon Age: The Veilguard:
- Choose the companion your Inquisitor romanced
- Decide the ultimate fate of the Inquisition
- Determine how your Inquisitor intended to deal with Solas
Friendship and Romance
The first major choice you will have to make for your Inquisitor is who they romanced during the previous game. If you have already played through Inquisition then this should be an easy decision.
However, new players to the Dragon Age franchise may not be certain who to pick. As you click on each of the possible companions on the left, the game will show you a new visual representation tarot card. Furthermore, there will also be a name and description of the person on the right.
Be aware that depending on the lineage of your Inquisitor, some companions may not be available. However, you can still click on them to see their information. If you wish to choose a companion who is currently locked, you can back out of the process to change your Inquisitor.
Fate of the Inquisition
The second major choice you will have to make regards the fate of the Inquisition at the end of the game. There are two possibilities here. If you Disband the Inquisition, it means that the group is no longer a major political player on the world stage. Your Inquisitor walked away from power, rather than risk being corrupted by it. It also frees them and their companions to go their separate ways.
Your other choice is to give control of the Inquisition to the Chantry. The Chantry is the major religious order in Thedas, and the Inquisition itself was founded by two of the Inquisition’s inner circle. Consequently, some of the Inquisition members will stay and become part of the Chantry order. However, other former companions will separate and return to their own lives.
The Hidden God
Finally, the last most significant choice you must make regarding how the story of Inquisition ended is how your Inquisitor regards Solas. His final reveal to be one of the ancient elven gods was a shock. How your Inquisitor decides to deal with him will likely be a crucial decision for Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
At the end of Inquisition, Solas disappears, after making his plans to tear down the Veil very clear. Your Inquisitor can either decide to track him down and hopefully put a stop to his efforts. Or, if your Inquisitor believes that Solas could be steered away from his path, then they could attempt to track him down and change his mind.
