Elgar’nan in Dragon Age: The Veilguard
One of the primary antagonists of the Dragon Age: The Veilguard is Elgar’nan, with his sister Ghilan’nain acting as another antagonist. Both Elgar’nan and Ghilan’nain are Evanuris, a group of Elven gods. Elgar’nan, a god of vengeance, and the sun leads the pantheon with the goddess Mythal. He is also known by the titles All-Father and the Eldest of the Sun. Though Elgar’nan was mentioned in other Dragon Age games, Dragon Age: The Veilguard marks his first appearance in the franchise.
In The Veilguard, Elgar’nan is freed from a prison in the Fade along with Ghilan’nain after the interruption of Solas’s ritual by Varric, Harding, Neve, and Rook. This leaves Solas trapped in the Fade while freeing Elgar’nan and Ghilan’nain.
History of Elgar’nan
According to Dalish legend, Elgar’nan’s story begins with his birth from the union of the sun and earth. The Sun became envious of Elgar’nan’s deep connection to the earth and all its life forms. As a result, the sun attempted to destroy the earth. So, Elgar’nan retaliated by throwing the sun from the sky. After being convinced by Mythal, he restored the sun with the agreement that it would set each night. His powers were often associated with fire, light, and lightning.
