Qunari is a mysterious and unique race of white-haired, metallic-skinned humanoids in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the fourth installment of the Dragon Age franchise, was released recently on October 31, 2024. In The Veilguard, players can choose the race of their protagonist Rook during the character creation screen. The four available lineages are human, dwarf, elf, and Qunari. If you started your journey with a lineage, it can’t be changed later during your gameplay.
Qunari, the most unique and yet complex lineage of humanoids with white hair, metallic skin, and huge horns, plays an important role in the franchise from the Dragon Age: Origins to Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Taash, one of the seven companions in The Veilguard, is a dragon hunter who belongs to the Qunari.
Let’s dive into some interesting facts about Qunari from the Dragon Age franchise.
Interesting Facts About Qunari in Dragon Age
Here are some interesting facts about the Qunari, the mysterious and unique lineage in the Dragon Age franchise.
Qunari Is Not A Race
Qunari is not precisely a race, but a religion called Qun. Those who follow the Qun religion are called Qunari. Anyone who follows the Qun religion can be a Qunari, even if they are from other lineages such as human, dwarf, or elf.
Descendents of Kossith
The physical appearance of most Qunari resembles a gray-skinned, tall, horned humanoid, which is similar to the appearance of their ancestors called Kossith. There are also some Qunari that exist without horns, such as Sten from Origins. Qunari can be even classified into further divisions such as Vashoth, Tal-Vashoth, and Viddathari.
Art Designs of Qunari in Various Games
The art designs of Qunari have been constantly changing from Origins to The Veilguard. If you have looked at Sten from Origins, Arishok from Dragon Age II, Iron Bull from Inquisition, and Taash from The Veilguard, all of them have unique and different designs from the other versions of the game. The most liked design of the Dragon Age community is the one from Dragon Age II with muscular, intimidating, massive horns.
Qunari Social Structure
Qunari are often misunderstood as monsters with their massive horns and unique eyes. They have a complex social structure and view their community as a single entity where every individual is a small part of the whole. Their society consists of three components, such as body, mind, and soul, based on their work and contribution to their community.
Ben-Hassrath
The Ben-Hassrath is the secret spy agency of Qunari, which is responsible for the re-education and indoctrination of prisoners.
Are Qunari Related to Dragons?
Finally, let’s talk about the myth surrounding the Qunari. Do Qunari come from dragons? Some say their horns look similar to those of dragons, and others say Qunari are descendants of ancient elves mixed with some dragon’s blood in their DNA. It is evident that they are the descendants of Kossith, who also appear with long horns. Apart from all the rumours and myths, there is no evidence that answers the assumption.
