Dragon Age: The Veilguard has a deeply captivating story where you will often need to employ the help of various characters. Mythal is (or was) a Goddess who is pivotal to the story, especially with regard to Solas. At a certain point, you will have to confront Mythal to ask for her help in the fight against the Elven gods. Basically, you would require Mythal’s essence to proceed, and the goddess will not easily hand it over to you.
When you confront Mythal, you are presented with a choice here. You can take the smart route and sweet-talk your way through, or embrace your inner combat enthusiast to battle a Higher Dragon. In this article, we will shed light on whether you should convince or fight Mythal in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. The outcome may be the same, but your choice will affect the fate of Solas and the game’s ending.
When Do You Encounter Mythal in Dragon Age: The Veilguard?
The confrontation with Mythal takes place during the Regrets of the Dread Wolf quest in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. This quest essentially digs into Solas’ past, and you have to collect six wolf statuettes. Each of them will have a cutscene of their own. Once you have all of them, talk to Morrigan, who will reveal a secret passageway to where Mythal’s essence is.
This is not the goddess in flesh and bones, but rather a remaining figment of her being. Your objective is to obtain Mythal’s essence and employ her aid to fight off the Evil Gods. There are two choices here – you can either convince Mythal that you are worthy with your words, or you can fight her instead.
Initially, there will be two choices when you converse with Mythal:
- “I want your help.”
- “You’re not going to help us.”
If you want to convince Mythal, you must select the first option and then continue to provide some specific answers. Similarly, if you want to encounter a tough boss fight, select the second option to fight a High Dragon.
What Happens if You Convince Mythal in Dragon Age: The Veilguard?
Convincing Mythal without fighting her in Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a pre-requisite if you want to get the true and secret ending of the game. Once you select the “I want your help” choice, Mythal will present you with several questions to test your worthiness.
There will be a wheel with several choices at this point. Each prompt that you select will make Mythal ask a question, and then you will need to select the correct response as well. Here is a table with all the correct answers to convince Mythal in Dragon Age: The Veilguard:

If you answer three of them correctly, Mythal will be convinced sooner. The prompts can be chosen in any order as well. There is also another option in the dialogue wheel that says, “Forget it. I’ll fight you.” You should not select this option at any cost if you want to get the secret ending of the game. This is also the only way to save Solas in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
If you convince Mythal, the goddess will also lend you a helping hand during the fight with the Revenant Dragon during the Heart of the Corruption quest. Here, Mythal will appear in her High Dragon form to deal huge damage to the Revenant Dragon.
What Happens If You Fight Mythal in Dragon Age: The Veilguard?
If you do not care about the story’s perspective, you can simply ignore all the dialogue altogether. During the initial choice, select the “You’re not going to help us” option that will lead you to a boss fight with a level 45 High Dragon, named Mythal’s Retribution.
Once you defeat this Dragon, you will be able to obtain Mythal’s essence anyway. However, this would also mean that you cannot save or redeem Solas and get the secret ending of Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
Convince or Fight Mythal: Which Should You Choose?
If you want to get the secret ending of Dragon Age: The Veilguard and save Solas, then you must convince Mythal without fighting her. This path will also let you avoid a rather difficult boss fight while also aiding you during the fight against the Revenant Dragon.
On the other hand, if you do not care much for the secret ending or Solas, or if you are a battle junkie who wants to fight a difficult High Dragon, then fighting Mythal might be the better choice for you.
