Harding and Davrin offer to lead the distraction effort in the ‘Isle of Gods’ quest in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
The Dragon Age series has always prided itself on following through with your choices and delivering consequences for those choices, and Dragon Age: The Veilguard is no different. The game routinely places you between a rock and a hard place, delivering emotional gut punches as a consequence of each decision.
One of Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s late-game quests, ‘Isle of Gods,’ exemplifies this by forcing a difficult choice. In this quest, Rook and the team mount an assault on Ghilan’nain, needing a decoy to distract her while they sneak up on the Elven goddess. Both Lace Harding and Davrin volunteer to lead the distraction, and a decision must be made on who will take charge.
In this guide, the difficult choice of selecting between Harding and Davrin to lead the distraction, and the consequences of each choice in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, will be explored.
Harding or Davrin
As Ghilan’nain works to finish her dagger, Rook will divide the teams into two: one to distract her forces and another to ambush her and prevent the completion of the dagger. Both Harding and Davrin volunteer to lead the distraction effort, and it is up to you to decide who will take charge. In typical Bioware fashion, the chosen leader of the distraction will die in battle as part of a noble sacrifice. To put it bluntly, one of these beloved characters will be sent to their death.
Harding As Distraction
If you pick Harding to lead the distraction, Rook will display concern for her, but she will remind him that they must do whatever is necessary to stop Ghilan’nain. She will lead her team to battle the Antaam and buy time. As the team approaches the dagger, Rook and Lucanis will be intercepted by Ghilan’nain. As the Elven goddess has Rook in her death grip, Harding will arrive to rescue the team, only to be impaled and thrown to her death.
Once dead, Harding will be unavailable for the rest of the game, and her quests will be inaccessible. She will also no longer be a companion during combat.
Davrin As Distraction
With the roars of Ghilan’nain’s pet echoing through the sky, Rook will show concern for Davrin. However, Davrin will remind Rook of their promise to do whatever it takes. From here, the encounter plays out similarly to Harding’s path. Davrin will be impaled and die in a sacrifice.
Davrin will then be unavailable for the rest of the game, and his quests will be inaccessible. He will no longer be a companion for quests or combat.
Who Should Lead the Distraction in Dragon Age: The Veilguard?
The choice between Harding and Davrin is purely a matter of personal preference. Both characters will be locked off as companions after their deaths. It is recommended to save the character who better fits the combat strategy and to consider their personal quests. Save the character whose personal quest is more intriguing and choose the other for the distraction.
