How to Unlock Davrin’s Veilguard Skill in Dragon Age: The Veilguard?
To unlock Davrin’s Veilguard skill in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, you will need to progress their companion quest line all the way through Home Roost. Afterward, you need to help him make a choice. Depending on the nature of that choice, you will unlock one of two possible Veilguard skills for Davrin.
Keep in mind that you cannot earn both of these skills for Davrin in a single playthrough. If you wish to experience gameplay with each skill you will need to make a different choice in a second playthrough. Another option would be to create a separate save game file.
Significantly, with this choice, you will also unlock a legendary armor for Davrin. Furthermore, each armor has a unique design that reflects the choice you made. Additionally, the traits on each armor are different and can affect your Davrin build.
Finally, the choice you will be making for Davrin is whether the griffons should return to fight for the Grey Wardens or become the protectors of Arlathan Forest. The story of the griffons and their rescue from the Gloom Howler is the personal challenge that Davrin faces in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Davrin Grey Warden Veilguard Skill

- Description: Assan Abilities have a 25% shorter cooldown duration. When used, Assan Abilities grant Deflect.
If you choose to return the griffons to the Grey Wardens, then you will unlock the Defender Veilguard skill for Davrin. This skill will unlock automatically after you make this choice. You will receive a notification on the screen at the quest conclusion, and you do not have to spend a skill point to unlock it.
Defender is a passive skill that affects only the Assan skills on your active bar. Of the six skills on his tree, only two of these skills use Assan: Death From Above and Assan Strike. When you have one of these on your bar, the Defender passive will give the Assan abilities a 25% shorter cooldown. Additionally, when you trigger an Assan ability, it will also grant you Deflect.
If you are using Davrin as a tank companion in Dragon Age: The Veilguard you are likely at least placing the powerful Death From Above ability on your bar. This synergizes incredibly well with the Defender passive. Not only is it an Assan skill, but it also deals Fire damage and detonates Weakened.
Davrin Grey Warden Legendary Armor

- Traits:
- Detonations damage is now dealt as Fire damage.
- Deal +25% more Fire damage for each stack of Burning on the target.
The Grey Benefactor legendary armor has bonuses that modify detonations and enhance Fire damage. The first trait changes detonations so that they now deal Fire damage. The second trait builds on that, allowing you to deal 25% more Fire damage for each stack of Burning on the target.
Again, this also pairs very well with the Defender passive and the Death From Above skill that uses Assan for an attack. Death From Above both Detonates Weakened and is a fire ability that can inflict Burning. Consequently, this means while wearing this armor and using Death From Above, the detonation has a chance to apply Burning. Moreover, the ability itself can apply another stack. This amplifies the +25% more Fire damage for each stack of Burning.
Davrin Arlathan Forest Veilguard Skill
Features and mechanics of Davrin’s Arlathan Forest Veilguard Skill:
- Name: Battlemaster
- Description: Assan Abilities deal 25% more damage. When used, Assan Abilities grant Precision.
If you choose to task the griffons with protecting Arlathan Forest, then you will unlock the Battlemaster Veilguard skill for Davrin. After the quest, you will receive a notification of your skill and armor reward. Battlemaster will automatically unlock, therefore you do not have to spend a skill point on it.
The Battlemaster passive grants an overall damage boost to Assan abilities, and also grants you the Precision buff when they are triggered. This passive could be useful if you have both of the Assan abilities (Death From Above an Assan Strike) on Davrin’s active skill bar. This may be a better option if you are playing as a Warrior class and are using Davrin more for DPS than as a tank.
Davrin Arlathan Forest Legendary Armor
All features and mechanics of Davrin’s Arlathan Forest Legendary Armor:
- Name: Wildwood Benefactor
- Weight: Heavy
- Rarity: Legendary
- Companion only: Davrin
- Traits:
- Detonating Staggered enemies deals Stagger to all enemies.
- Stagger from Detonating is increased by 10% for each enemy hit.
The Wildwood Benefactor has two trait bonuses that will boost the Stagger effect Davrin can cause upon detonating Weakened. The first trait will cause all enemies to Stagger if you use Davrin’s detonating ability against an already staggered enemy. Furthermore, the second trait increases the Stagger from a detonation by 10% for each enemy hit.
This is a set that would be great for crowd control, especially in those situations where you are dealing with packs of darkspawn or demons. However, for it to be effective you will need to be careful about choosing which enemy to strike. Before Davrin detonates the enemy, you will have to make sure they are already staggered. Otherwise, the detonation won’t spread the Stagger to all of the other enemies you’re fighting.
