A major aspect of Blue Lock is its memorable characters, and it takes pride in how distinct each of them is. While this has charmed many fans, there are also viewers who get annoyed by some cast members.
Hence, here are the 8 most hated Blue Lock characters ranked amongst each other.
8) The Wanima Twins
The Wanima brothers were early antagonists in Blue Lock who were known for their arrogance and underhanded nature. They looked down on all others, especially Chigiri, who was constantly tormented regarding his injured leg.
The twins notably accepted Kuon’s plan of betrayal, relishing in the dismay of his teammates. Their lack of redeeming qualities, selfishness, and villainous character design have helped make them extremely hated Blue Lock characters.
7) Ryusei Shido
Blue Lock tends to go overboard with its eccentric characters, and Ryusei Shido is the perfect example of this. The striker was introduced as a surprise entrant who played for the Japan U-20 team despite having come from Project Blue Lock.
Nevertheless, he could care little about the project, hounding after glory. Shido’s instinctive playstyle makes him extremely violent, to the degree where he was locked up. He gets overly excited about football and his dialogues often contain crass innuendos.
Thus, while Shido might be one of the best players in the series, he also showcases the extreme side of egoistic football.
6) Reo Mikage
At the start, Reo Mikage was a relatively likable character who came from an affluent family and had a positive bond with Nagi. However, once the matches started getting intense, he lost his sense of self, threw tantrums and even got violent.
A dark side of Reo is his obsession with Nagi, which he took as a personal betrayal when the latter joined Isagi. While he has certainly stepped out on his own over the story, there are still very few memorable aspects of his character that don’t involve Nagi.
5) Sae Itoshi
The prodigious Sae Itoshi is Rin’s brother and the main opponent of team Blue Lock in the Japan U-20 match. Sae is condescending and dismissive, always looking down on Japanese Football.
He is arrogant, cold, and cares very little about being respectful towards the hierarchy and those older than him. Most notably, Sae was a source of inspiration to Rin, motivating him to join football.
However, he switched from being a striker to a midfielder after experiencing the world level, despite having promised Rin the two would become forwards together. Making matters worse, he paid no heed to his brother’s well-being, showing a complete lack of empathy for Rin’s ambitions.
Even after Rin painstakingly defeated Sae in a one-on-one, he was never acknowledged by his older brother. While some fans think this isn’t deliberate and Sae genuinely isn’t aware of Rin’s feelings, it is still enough to make him hated.
4) Wataru Kuon
Wataru Kuon originally seemed to be a smart person who his teammates could rely upon during matches. He cared about football and was one of the few who seemed nice. Unfortunately, this led to one of the most shocking reveals in Blue Lock.
When Kuon had surmised that his team with Isagi and others wouldn’t win, he betrayed them for the sake of singularly surviving. He played terribly on purpose, showing no incentive and letting opponents score. This nearly eliminated the protagonist. While Kuon did have some sort of redemption later in the series when he came back to help his team, his prior actions have cast a long shadow, making him a character hard to forgive.
3) Ryosuke Kira
Despite his short stay, Ryosuke Kira has been a memorable Blue Lock character – for all the wrong reasons. Initially introduced as a promising player, he was kind-hearted and joined the Blue Lock project with Isagi.
He openly refused the coach’s theories on egoism, still believing team play was crucial. However, once the tag match started, he was the first one to get eliminated by a brutal shot from Isagi. At this point, Kira’s narcissistic side came out, and he blamed everyone but himself. He believed himself to be superior to others, constantly berating Jinpachi Ego’s style of play.
This left a sour taste in the mouths of fans, who fell out of love with this character who couldn’t adapt to his surroundings.
2) Ness
Alexis Ness plays for Bastard Munchen in the Neo-Egoist League and is a very talented player. While his passing abilities are certainly laudable, they get overshadowed by his nature as a sycophant.
Ness demonstrates extreme dedication to Kaiser, willingly prioritizing Kaiser’s spotlight over his team’s success. He constantly praises his idol, insulting Isagi for even trying to compete against him. This makes Ness lack individuality, with his main trait just being a crazed fanatic. This understandably annoys fans whenever he appears on screen.
1) Gurimu Igarashi
Gurimu Igarashi is undoubtedly the most hated Blue Lock character, detested by almost every viewer. This is mainly because he is the weakest player in the entire series who has far overstayed his welcome.
To avoid becoming a monk, he plays a determined style of football, consisting primarily of underhanded tactics. He uses others to his advantage, draws out fouls, and does whatever is necessary to stay in the game. Most of the skills Igarshi uses hardly ever apply actual football technicalities, tending more towards a cowardly manner of victory. This was best seen when he used Isagi as a shield in the first challenge.
A niche of fans have been charmed by Igarashi’s spirit to stick around. However, others have become annoyed due to his lack of growth and meaningful contributions to the team.
