Figarland Shamrock is the commander of the God’s Knights, son of Saint Garling, and twin brother of Shanks. Connected to the central themes of One Piece, this figure has already captured the spotlight despite his lack of screen time. Let us take a closer look at him.
Who Is Shamrock in One Piece?
As mentioned above, Figarland Shamrock is the leader of God’s Knights – the elite guard of Mary Geoise. He was separated from Shanks earlier in life and has grown up with the ideologies of the Celestial Dragons.
Due to this, Shamrock has a discriminatory attitude towards most of the “common people” in One Piece. During conversations with Loki, he refers to the world on the surface as filthy. Unlike Shanks, Shamrock is also more hostile, not hesitant in resorting to violence.
When he assesses that dialogue will not work, he takes drastic measures ranging from kidnapping children to torturing tied-up prisoners. While his personality seems to be far from heroic, he is a figure formidable enough to gain the loyalty of others. The God’s Knight Gunko is dedicated to him, not tolerating Loki’s disrespect towards Shamrock.
Shamrock’s Strengths and Abilities
Having reached the pinnacle of the God’s Knights, Shamrock is believed to be among the strongest in the series. His main weapon is Cerberus, a biting blade. Its appearance shows fearsome dogs with swords sticking out of their mouths. These animals are able to detach from Shamrock’s blade, leaving immense damage on Loki. While fans have theorized this to be a weapon that has eaten a Devil Fruit, there has been no confirmation regarding this.
It is also assumed that Shamrock has knowledge and power over Magic Circles, which he uses to infiltrate Elbaph. Additionally, fans also presume him to be talented with multiple forms of Haki.
Shamrock’s political influence, control over the God’s Knights, and puzzling abilities make fans very curious to learn more about his strength.
How Did One Piece Fans Predict Shamrock’s Existence?
While Shamrock’s existence is certainly an exciting moment in One Piece, it is far from shocking. This is because there have been endless debates regarding a brother of Shanks, titled “Shanks’ Evil Twin”.
Discussions about this stemmed when a character resembling Shanks had a polite discussion with the Gorosei during the Levely. This was highly out-of-character for the Red-Hair Pirate, making fans believe Shanks had some sort of connection to the World Nobles.
This point was further strengthened during the One Piece Film: Red, where the Elders addressed Uta with the Figarland surname, believing her to be Shanks’ daughter. Finally, Saint Garling had indicated having multiple children during the hunting competitions in God Valley.
However, soon after the God Valley Incident, Shanks was abandoned and Roger picked him up from the treasure chest. Hence, Shamrock likely continued living with his father, sharing his same mindset.
With the abundance of clues scattered and the passionate One Piece fanbase, there was no answer left apart from Shanks having a twin brother. Chapter 1137 of the One Piece manga finally put a name to the identity, introducing Figarland Shamrock, Shanks’ older twin brother.
Shamrock’s Role in the Elbaph Arc
When the Straw Hats were exploring the expansive landscape of Elbaph and running into old friends, Shamrock and Gunko invaded another part of the island through a Magic Circle. Upon defeating the giant guards, they discovered Loki’s location and ended up meeting him.
During conversations with the prince of Elbaph, Shamrock and Gunko offered Loki the chance to join the God’s Knights. However, the giant defiantly refused, causing them to brutally beat him down. After Loki mentioned the similarities between Shamrock and Shanks, the God’s Knight finally revealed his identity and connection to the pirate.
Having decided to take another approach, Shamrock unleashed his Cerberus attack on Loki, challenging the giant to hunt him down should he survive. In his last appearance in the recent chapter, Shamrock expressed how they couldn’t subjugate Elbaph right then and would start by kidnapping children.
Therefore, Shamrock’s role in Elbaph is to recruit Loki. While one reason for this is to make the powerful giant join the God’s Knights, another reason is to make use of his title as a prince. Through this, his main goal of bringing Elbaph and all its warriors under the control of the World Government would be achieved. However, due to Loki’s uncooperative attitude, he removes him as an obstacle and commences another plan.
