Asmongold Reveals Why He Never Took a Twitch Contract

Asmongold said he never pursued Twitch contracts like other creators because he valued his personal freedom more than money.

Twitch streamer Zack “Asmongold” Hoyt was watching an episode of the Colin and Samir podcast on YouTube on February 15, 2025, during which podcast guest Imane “Pokimane” Anys talked about how streamers got up to $20 million for exclusive contracts during the early 2020s. Hoyt commented that he valued his personal freedom, so he never pursued any Twitch contract.

Asmongold is vocal about why he streams content on Twitch. He streamed without monetization for years until Twitch forced all eligible channels to feature ads. The streamer said he made “enough money” already and saw no reason to monetize his AsmongoldTV or Zackrawrr channels on the platforms.

The streamer also claimed that a lot of streamers were under contract without telling their audience. He clarified that the content creators were not being dishonest and just wanted privacy. Asmongold’s fans asked him if he would get a contract for a billion dollars. He responded by saying:

“Why would I need a billion dollars?”

Asmongold Does Not Like Feeling Committed to Streaming

While watching Pokimane talk about how major content creators got contracts from Twitch during 2020 and 2021, Asmongold shared his thoughts, saying:

“A bunch of people got contracts. A whole lot of people got contracts. A lot of people maybe you guys don’t even know had contracts. Like, there’s some people I know they had contracts but they didn’t let people know…because, it’s complicated right? It was nothing misleading or deceiving. It was just that they were never made public. I never pursued a contract like that because I didn’t want to feel committed to streaming.”

The streamer talked about how he values his freedom. He also didn’t want to include ads in his content, which is why he avoided contracts. The streamer added:

“To me freedom in my life is the most important thing. There is not a dollar amount that you can put on that to be worth to me. So, freedom to say yes or no to do what I want to do or say what I want to say or not say…that is more valuable to me than any amount of money. That’s why I didn’t sign a contract. I didn’t do it, right? It was that and the ads.”

Asmongold stopped streaming on his AsmongoldTV channel because of mental pressure. He now streams under his Zackrawrr channel, where he mostly does gaming and political commentary.

The Streamer Threatened To Leave Twitch in 2024

Hoyt is also vocal about Twitch’s policies, calling out the streaming platform’s moderation practices. Last year, the streamer was temporarily banned for his comments about Palestinians being from an “inferior culture.” After his return, he questioned the platform’s moderation policies and threatened to leave if Twitch banned him again for his comments.

In November 2024, Asmongold grew frustrated with the platform’s moderation. He told his audience:

“One person can do something and nothing happens. Somebody else says something, and they are permanently banned. I think also the moderation is extremely biased. It’s biased. And this will become more evident over time.”

The streamer plans to continue streaming on Twitch. However, the platform forced him to monetize his content in 2024. In a platform-wide update, Twitch automatically implemented ads on affiliate and partner channels without consent, which drew a lot of criticism.
