The latest addition to the beloved Assassin’s Creed franchise, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, was released on March 20th, 2025. As someone who grew up playing games from the same franchise, I find it really hard to hold my excitement. I bet that the same goes for the fans of the franchise across the world. Gamers across various platforms like PC, Mac, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and even the Steam Deck want to get their hands on Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

Gamers who are planning to play Assassin’s Creed Shadows on Steam Deck will have to play the game at about 30 FPS via SteamOS. Moreover, you won’t be able to fully customize the game’s performance on SteamOS. The reason for that is a set of graphics options are locked.

On the flip side, users who run a dual-boot setup on their Steam Decks can play the game via Windows. The key difference in this case is that every setting will be accessible. Hence, you can customize every setting according to your needs. In the post, we will outline the best settings for Steam Deck (SteamOS and Windows) in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Let’s get started, shall we?

Note: The configurations detailed in this post are specifically tailored for a resolution of 1280×800.

The SteamOS version of Assassin’s Creed Shadows operates with a locked configuration for stability reasons. The users face limited available options for graphical settings. Here are the settings they can use to optimize their gaming experience:

SettingValue
Image CalibrationDo not change
Field of View90%
Ray Traced Global IlluminationDiffuse Hideout Only
Aspect Ratio16:9
VsyncOff
Resolution1280×800
Upscaler TypeAMD FSR (recommended)
Minimum Dynamic Resolution25%
Maximum Dynamic Resolution75%
Sharpen Strength0.50
Frame GenerationOff

That is pretty much all you can adjust when it comes to running Assassin’s Creed Shadows on Steam Deck via SteamOS. Although, you have a bit of flexibility when it comes to the upscaler type. You can switch between AMD FSR and Intel XeSS. Switching to Intel XeSS will offer slightly enhanced image quality at the cost of performance during resource-demanding scenes. Thus, we don’t recommend switching from FSR.

When you play Assassin’s Creed Shadows on your Steam Deck via dual-booting Windows, it lifts all the restrictions on the graphics settings. This grants you improved control over performance as well as the graphics of the game. Before we proceed, we recommend that you make sure that your device has the latest AMD Radeon graphics drivers installed. If you are done with that, here are the settings to optimize your game:
