- Come back to fight another day: Even in the early areas of the game, you’ll run into enemies that are simply too powerful for you to fight. Remember, your weapons are still underpowered that early on. So, these battles can overwhelm you quickly. Some enemies can even kill you in one hit. If this happens, you should know that you probably aren’t meant to fight that particular opponent before getting substantial upgrades and attribute improvements. So, retreat from these fights, keep a mental note of where the enemy is on the map, and return when you’re better prepared.
- Explore regions thoroughly: In some cases, characters within the game might want you to fetch certain items in exchange for special rewards. In some cases, you might get access to those items much later on. In these instances, you’ll just have to progress through the game patiently. At other times, the item you seek might be in your proximity. For instance, when you interact with the Demineur NPC, you learn that it needs a mine. You can find the mine in the area beside Demineur by completing a simple platforming section. The game doesn’t point the location of the mine and you’ll need to discover it yourself.
- Unlock new skills and upgrade weapons: As you progress in the game, you’ll need better and more powerful skills and weapons to face tougher opponents. You can fight with random enemies to gain experience points and unlock new skills for characters. To upgrade your weapon, you’ll need to reach The Manor and unlock the Curator after defeating him in a fight. After that, bring the Curator standard and Polished Chroma Catalysts to upgrade your weapons.
- Check the map for your current destination: You can easily become sidetracked thanks to the various side activities in the game. That can often mean forgetting exactly what you need to do to progress in the Main Story. Press Q (on PC by default) while not in a battle to quickly refresh your memory about what you need to do next. You can also open the world map to see your next objective location. The game marks it with a red cross.
The game also allows you to lower the difficulty settings at any time. Simply go into the Settings from the Pause Menu. Under Gameplay, you’ll find the option to alter the difficulty mode. Clair Obscur Expedition 33 is a tough game, but you’ll still have a great time playing in the forgiving difficulty options.
