Death Stranding 2: How To Drop Backpack

Carrying your bag makes you slower and easily visible to enemies in Death Stranding 2, so sometimes it is better to drop it.

Death Stranding 2 tasks you with taking delicate and important cargo and traveling across a vast map to deliver it. The task seems easy, but along the way, you find tons of enemies, hazardous terrain, and if you’re really unlucky, the BTs.

Your backpack is what you use to carry around the assigned delivery cargo. You load it all up into the backpack and then set off on your journey. While the backpack can stay firmly planted on your back with no issues for the most part, it can quickly become a liability if you’re thrown into a combat scenario.

Carrying your backpack during some of the game makes you stick out like a sore thumb and isn’t ideal if you’re trying to sneak around. More so than that, Sam moves much slower when carrying cargo. If bullets start coming your way, you’re pretty much cooked with the restricted mobility.

If you’re looking to make the most of your combat scenarios, you gotta ditch the bag. If you don’t know how to, keep reading to find out.

As stated earlier, while you don’t really HAVE to drop your backpack, you make your combat encounters much smoother by simply doing so. To drop your backpack, follow the steps given below:

  • Press and hold the Up arrow key on the D-pad. This will bring up a selection wheel.
  • On the selection wheel, use the right stick to select the option to “Offload Backpack.” This is the first option in the anticlockwise direction.
  • Once you have the “Offload Backpack” option selected, press the X button to confirm your selection.

Alternatively, you can also do so by simply pressing and holding the Triangle key. Holding the Triangle key will cause Sam to drop his backpack onto the floor. Once the backpack is on the floor, Sam is free to move about with much greater mobility and stealth.

If you wish to pick your backpack back up, simply walk over to your backpack and press the triangle button to pick it back up.
