Rainy is a new character in Death Stranding 2 that players will come across while exploring and connecting Australia to the chiral network. A fellow DOOMs sufferer, she has the exceptional talent of bringing Timefall (rainfall) anytime she steps outside. We come across the character after you connect Rainbow Valley to the chiral network.
Here’s what we know about Rainy’s backstory in DS2.
“I was the “witch” who brought the timefall. A monster to be locked up in a cage.”

Rainy is a member of the Drawbridges and will join others on the DHV Magellan once Sam finds her after connecting Rainbow Valley to the chiral network and going to meet a comrade. Her backstory is revealed once Sam completes the task of delivering the test kangaroo to the Animal Shelter. During the mission, a forest fire breaks out. Once Sam makes his escape, Rainy steps out on the deck of the DHV Magellan and brings down rain to put out the fire. Following this, Fragile explains Rainy’s backstory in Death Stranding 2.
Fragile heard about Rainy roughly six months earlier as “the girl who brought the rain.” We see a cutscene of a younger Rainy running from a group of people chasing after her. The voiceover by Rainy mentions that timefall came every time she stepped outside and that she had no control to stop it.
The incessant timefall was the sole reason why she was despised by others, including her parents, who asked her to leave. She was tagged as “the ‘witch’ who brought the timefall” and as a monster who deserved to be locked in a cage. The most dedicated of the witch hunters even tried to burn her alive.

In the cinematic, she manages to hide from her pursuers and finds herself among debris. Given that she was isolated by her society, she remained alone for a long time. Fueled by desperation, she signed up for “a special UCA program, hoping to find purpose as a mother.” In the cinematics, Rainy finds a star-shaped toy and pets her stomach, saying, “Hi there. You’re safe.” The pregnancy still couldn’t change her fortune, as no one was willing to take her in.
In the cutscene, she narrowly manages to avoid being crushed by a falling scaffold. Her pursuers find her the next moment. They start calling her a witch and throwing stones. When she reacts angrily, one of the residents hits her in the stomach with a baton. In frustration, Rainy picks up a big stone beside her but is stopped by a gun-wielding Bridges security member, who orders her to leave.

“No one wanted anything to do with me. All they saw was a witch, to be hated and feared.”
The cutscene then moves to Rainy standing on a deserted bridge. She steps to the very edge, looking downward, clearly preparing to take the leap, when Fragile appears.
Fragile mentions that she has been looking for Rainy and her power. She refers to Rainy as a “pharmakon,” a medicine that can harm and a poison that can heal. She continues to state that she believes Rainy can save the world, with there being things that only she can accomplish. Finally convinced, Rainy decides to join Fragile’s team.

Rainy’s Unique Power
Back in the present, Fragile mentions that while Rainy brings about timefall every time she steps outside, there’s a unique kind of precipitation within a 1.5-meter radius of Rainy’s body. This is dubbed corefall. Opposite to timefall, corefall restores anything it touches to an earlier state, a power to heal and repair timefall’s effects.
Is Rainy Pregnant?
Yes, Rainy is pregnant in Death Stranding 2. She mentions in her backstory cutscene that she enrolled in a special UCA program in hopes of finding purpose as a mother. Rainy has stillbaby syndrome, where the baby is stuck at seven months.
