Elden Ring Nightreign’s launch is right around the corner, with the game set to come out on May 30, 2025. Much like FromSoftware’s recent few releases (Elden Ring, Shadow of the Erdtree, and Armored Core 6), Nightreign is coming to both current- and previous-gen consoles, alongside PC.

Given the game’s focus on online multiplayer, FromSoftware has taken some precautionary measures to counteract instances of cheating in the game, especially for the PC version. Much like in the case of Elden Ring and Armored Core 6, Nightreign ships with Easy Anti-Cheat, which should help alleviate instances of cheating in the game’s online modes.

However, alongside Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC), FromSoftware has also implemented an additional DRM into the PC version. The PC port of Elden Ring Nightreign doesn’t have Denuvo per se; however, it does ship with a different DRM that serves a similar purpose. Here’s everything you need to know about Elden Ring Nightreign’s PC port and the GuardIT DRM.

What DRM Does Elden Ring Nightreign Use on PC?

According to the game’s Steam store page, Nightreign ships with the GuardIT DRM. Surprisingly enough, unlike Denuvo, GuardIT doesn’t have an activation limit. As such, you can technically install and play the game on multiple different systems, granted you aren’t online on all of them at the same time. Furthermore, in addition to GuardIT, Nightreign also uses Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC), which is a Kernel-level Anti-Cheat software. It’s essentially meant to detect and filter players who might be using exploits and mods.

Unlike DRMs, Anti-Cheat software like EAC doesn’t hamper performance and is often a necessity for games that feature multiplayer game modes. Do note that Easy Anti-Cheat is installed separately from Nightreign. As such, when you uninstall the game from your PC, you will have to manually delete EAC and its files. Nightreign is the first instance of FromSoftware using a DRM in their game. Their previous titles never featured a DRM; even Elden Ring and Armored Core 6 only featured EAC.

That said, given the game’s focus on multiplayer and co-op, it is understandable why the studio chose to use a DRM this time around.

Elden Ring Nightreign is scheduled to be released on May 30, 2025. The game, much like the previous few FromSoftware titles, is a cross-gen release, coming to both current-gen (PS5 and Xbox Series X|S) and previous-gen (PS4 and Xbox One) consoles. Nightreign is offered in two different editions digitally – Standard and Deluxe. Due to the game’s limited scope, both in terms of its narrative and its gameplay, Nightreign is priced at $40 instead of the usual $60.

The game ships with 8 Nightfarers (classes). However, FromSoftware does have plans to release more Nightfarers as paid DLCs.
