You can start A Normal Life right after finishing the Prologue. It’s part of Chapter 1: The Lone Wolf, under the Yotei Grasslands Tales section.

To begin, head to where the Shikotsu River meets the Sarubetsu River. You need to go west from Atsu’s home and then move south of Yotei’s Shadow Inn. At the forked bend of the two rivers, you will see a lone fisherman standing on a pier. He’s the one who gives you the quest.

1. Talk to the Fisherman

Once you find the fisherman, approach and talk to him. He will tell you how Lord Saito’s men keep pestering him to give up his home and work for them. If you have not unlocked The Undying Samurai myth, this dialogue might trigger it too.

The peaceful chat doesn’t last long. A group of Saito Outlaws shows up, and they try to intimidate the fisherman. You can feel how tired he is of their harassment, but he refuses to bow down. His exact words are “I’m not serving Saito”. This sets the tone for what comes next.

2. Watch the Scene Unfold

Before you can react, one of the outlaws fires an arrow and kills the fisherman instantly. After the fisherman’s death, the enemies turn their attention to you. The group isn’t too large, and they’re not very strong, making this an easy early-game fight. Use this chance to practice your swordplay and defensive timing. You can parry or dodge easily since their attacks are slower compared to enemies that appear towards the latter half of the game.

Once you have cleared the area, walk back to the pier and inspect the fisherman’s body. After this moment, you will automatically get the Bow’s Grip Mask. It’s a vanity item with the description: “The feeling of release. An arrow flies.” It’s not a powerful gear upgrade, but it serves as a keepsake; something that reminds you of the fisherman’s final stand.
