With the Ghost of Yotei Prologue completed, you can explore Atsu’s home further, slipping in the past and the present to learn more about her family. These are poignant moments that provide much-needed backstory of who Atsu was before the Night of the Burning Tree. It allows players to connect with her and realise the reason behind her quest for vengeance.

You will have to explore the property thoroughly to find interactable points in the present day and flashback points to relive past memories. You can press and hold the touchpad button to switch between past and present in Ghost of Yotei.

Fix The Bamboo Stand

It is located to the right of the shamisen spot (where you sat with Atsu’s mother in the Prologue). A Golden Bird may appear to guide you to it. Go there and press R2 to fix the Bamboo Strike. Press R2 again to cut the Bamboo Strike. The button combinations are as follows:

• First – X, X, L1
• Second – X, X, L1, X, X
• Third – X, X, L1, X, X, L1, X
• Third (Flying Piece) – Square, Square

This is the first Bamboo Strike you come across in Ghost of Yotei. Successfully completing all steps will unlock one additional Spirit to increase the Maximum Spirit.

Fix Bamboo Stand (to the right of the shamisen spot) – The first Bamboo Strike of Ghost of Yotei. Go through the prompts to cut the bamboo and earn an additional Spirit.

Inside The House

You have two interactable points inside Atsu’s house in the present day in Ghost of Yotei:

• Time-word Note (on the pole straight in front of the door) – It is a note left by the Yotei Six. It mentions:

“This was the home of a traitor to Lord Saito. The coward berayed his lord – and his family paid the price. Their spirits now curse this land and anyone who walks here. Let the Night of the Burning Tree serve as a warning: Disloyalty will be answered in blood.”

• Examine Painting Supplies (to the right) – This hints at the various Sumi-E painting spots scattered around Ezo. It points to a little island to the west of Atsu’s home, where you will get the first Sumi-E painting mini gameplay.

Forge

Go to Atsu’s father’s forge and press R2. Atsu mentions that she can improve her katana there once she has gathered enough metals and other required resources.

Mother’s Garden

The interactable point is near the Bamboo Strike and on the left side of the house. Atsu mentions that there is nothing left of the garden anymore.

Rock Structure

Walk straight ahead while keeping the Bamboo Strike on the left till you get the option to pick up scattered rocks with R2. You can then Stack Them on a flat stone.

Talk To Parents Past The Bamboo Stand

Interact with Atsu’s parents with R2. They will mention that they were once at the top of Mount Yotei, where they left charms for Atsu and Jubei at the summit shrine. This unlocks a clue card to get this charm. Check out our Mt. Yotei ultimate guide for Ghost of Yotei to learn more.

Mother’s Garden

Atsu interacts with the basket of vegetables to note what is there for dinner.

Jubei’s Hole Of Money

Keeping Atsu’s father’s forge to the left, head towards the gate. You will notice Jubei knelt down beside a hole in the ground. Press R2 to interact with him. Completing the dialogue will put Atsu back in the present day. You will be able to press R2 to Dig Up Jubei’s Stash.

Zeni Hajiki Game With Atsu’s Mother

You can play a game of Zeni Hajiki with Atsu’s mother if you return home after learning completing the Sleight of Hand quest (check our Zeni Hajiki guide for Ghost of Yotei to learn how to unlock).

Jubei’s Headband

I found this interactable moment after returning home post the first cutscene of Saito at the Koga Fortress. You will see Jubei standing near the ginkgo tree, a little ahead of the shamisen spot. Press R2 to interact with him. He mentions a bird stole his headband and hid it on the roof. Once the dialogue is completed, present-day Atsu can climb the roof to find Jubei’s headband in the nest.
