In this guide, we shall go over the basics of the fishing mechanism in Ghost of Yotei, so you can hunt some fish for yourself.
Ghost of Yotei may be an action-packed story about revenge, but it doesn’t shy away from letting you immerse yourself in more mundane tasks, such as fishing. Fishing gives you a break from the stressful combat, especially if you’re playing the game on Lethal, and allows you to relax and spend time in the water.
At least, that’s the initial impression it gives you. Before you know it, the fish are flopping around in the air, seemingly taunting you as you fail to catch them. If fishing is starting to get on your nerves, this guide will help you master it.
How To Catch Fish in Ghost of Yotei
You catch fish by using the Yari (spear) weapon in Ghost of Yotei. It is an ancient yet timeless way of catching fish. Head into the water and equip the spear. Wait for the fish to swim near you, and then attack the fish with the spear. Atsu will plunge the spear into the water, and if you’re positioned well, into the fish. You’ll then have caught the fish.
Catching fish will take you a bit of practice. You’ll first get to do this during The Way of the Yari quest in the game. The Yari Master will teach you the mechanics, and you can use these later to hunt for yourself.
Why Should You Catch Fish in Ghost of Yotei
Atsu has plenty of big fish to fry in the story, with the Yotei Six being the biggest of them all. This then begs the question: why spend time catching small (actual) fish at all? What purpose does catching fish serve? Is it worth your while?
Well, yes, it is! Catching and consuming fish grants you temporary buffs for Defense, Attack, or Utility. This, in turn, makes the combat scenarios far more manageable. Once you have the fish in hand, head back to camp, and you can then cook and consume the fish to acquire the buffs.
