The Oni is one of the first few targets to hunt before Atsu can go for Saito’s twin sons: the Dragon and Spider. This is a lengthy main quest with plenty of quest objectives, but the big reveal is that Atsu wasn’t the sole survivor during the Night of the Burning Tree.
Picking this route will reveal early that Lord Kitamori is actually her twin brother, Jubei. This reveal could have an effect on how players perceive the story. Other than that, the Oni is a tough boss, and you may not have the best gear to face them straight away.

The Kitsune, on the other hand, is a much better option. This will take you to Teshio Ridge, where you can discover new gear and items. It is worth mentioning that Ezo is roughly the same size as Tsushima, which means you will have plenty of places to visit.
The Tokachi Range and Yotei Grasslands are accessible, and you can freely explore the region. Choosing the Kitsune helps build up the tension of the story and allows you to get better gear, such as armor and masks.
