The Deep Serpent in Hades 2 is a mini-boss version of the regular Sea Serpents that are scattered throughout Oceanos. These mini-bosses present one of the tougher challenges when starting out. They are among the first mobs that could potentially end your run. These serpents are stationary but can throw deadly projectiles that are difficult to dodge. Additionally, the arena spawns Sop-Spindles that should be eliminated as quickly as possible. Here’s how you can defeat the Deep Serpent in Hades 2.

The Deep Serpent can be encountered in Oceanos, the second location of the Underworld. The biome is filled with sea-like mobs and traps, as well as King Vermin, Scylla, and the Sirens. Oceanos is filled with the Melodies of the Sirens and Sop-Spindles, which are among the hurdles in this mini-boss fight. You can reach Oceanos by following the Tartarus route during later runs.

The Deep Serpent might be a mini-boss, but its moves and arena can end your run, mainly due to the large number of projectiles thrown around the arena. They are stationary at different ends of the arena. Meanwhile, the Sop-Spindles are also present, giving the player an additional challenge. Here are all the moves of the Deep Serpent:

  • Serpent Melee Strike: The Serpent strikes with its head in a radius around it.
  • Projectile Cluster: The Deep Serpent throws several projectiles into the air, striking anything on the ground. It takes a second or two to reach the target (depending on position) and deals damage only when the projectiles land. The attacks are indicated by a red circle on the ground.
  • Circle Bullet Hell: The Deep Serpent throws several projectiles shaped like a circle, which then spread out in the arena and split twice.

The Deep Serpent is often the secondary problem at the beginning of the boss fight because the Sop-Spindles it summons are armored and need to be dealt with immediately. It is recommended to focus on the Serpents after eliminating all Sop-Spindles. During the fight with the Serpents, always keep dashes ready, as the projectile attacks are usually spammed by the mini-boss.

Keep an eye out for armor-breaking boons such as Hestia’s and Molten Touch to deal with them as quickly as possible. The Serpents being stationary also gives you enough space to dodge and attack separately. The Umbral Flames Hammer works wonders, as one of its upgrades can take down 80% of enemy armor with your special attack.

Darting around the arena endlessly can cover you in projectiles, so always be on the lookout for the next safe spot during the boss fight.
