Rakish Audacity is one of the starting class features for Swashbucklers in Baldur’s Gate 3. Here is a guide on how it works.

Swashbucklers are an upcoming subclass in Baldur’s Gate 3, making their appearance alongside patch 8 of the game. As with the other subclasses, starting from level three, you will have to select one of the subclasses available for a specific class.
For Rogues, the three available subclasses are Thief, Arcane Trickster, and Assassin. With patch 8, however, Rogues will get access to the new Swashbuckler subclass. This subclass excels in single combat for a multitude of reasons. One of them is its starting feature, Rakish Audacity.

What Does Rakish Audacity Do in Baldur’s Gate 3

Rakish Audacity will be available to Swashbucklers from level 3 onwards, which is the level at which you can first choose to be a Swashbuckler. Rakish Audacity has two benefits it grants to players who choose to play as a Swashbuckler.
Firstly, it grants a +1 bonus to initiative rolls which scales with your Rogue level. This bonus can grow to be +4 at its highest. The second feature allows you to make a Sneak Attack without advantage so long as you are within 1.5m of the target and don’t have a disadvantage.
How Good is Rakish Audacity in Baldur’s Gate 3

All of the Swashbuckler’s features are powerful, but Rakish Audacity stands out even among the others. The Sneak Attack is the lynchpin of the Rogue’s kit, and Rakish Audacity works wonders to enable it. So long as you don’t have a disadvantage and are attempting a melee attack, you can use a Sneak Attack instead.
The only downside of Rakish Audacity is that it provides no benefit for ranged Sneak Attacks. However, since Swashbuckler is a class with a focus on melee combat, this downside is largely mitigated.
Rakish Audacity works well with Fancy Footwork, one of the other Swashbuckler features. Fancy Footwork makes it so that an enemy you have made a melee attack against cannot make opportunity attacks against you for the rest of your turn.
One possible combo is to attack an opponent with a Sneak Attack and then use Cunning Action: Dash to make distance from your opponent. The Swashbuckler excels in weaving in and out of enemy reach and using Sneak Attacks while avoiding damage.
And that was how Rakish Audacity works in Baldur’s Gate 3.
