The First Berserker Khazan starts as a fairly simple souls-like game with a linear leveling system and rarity-based loot akin to the Nioh series. However, once you progress through the main story, the game gradually opens up, giving you access to its various underlying gameplay features.

While it might not look like it, The First Berserker Khazan features an in-depth build-crafting system that stretches far beyond the traditional leveling system. One of the most intriguing features of the game is the addition of Phantoms. After you defeat the Blade Phantom in the second main story mission, you get access to these spectral beings and their passive perks.

Keshta the Unyielding is the very first Phantom you receive in the game. Admittedly, it’s the best Phantom in the entire game, granting you bonus Stamina Regeneration as you level it up.

However, Keshta also has another set of abilities that only unlock after Awakening the Phantom. Unfortunately, the game never explains how you can Awaken Phantoms. To help you with that, here’s a guide on how to awaken Keshta the Unyielding in The First Berserker Khazan.

To unlock Keshta the Unyielding, you need to complete the second main story mission, Trials of the Frozen Mountain, and defeat the Blade Phantom. Completing the Trials of the Frozen Mountain unlocks the area called the Crevice, which serves as the game’s central hub.

Within the Crevice, you can talk to the Blade Phantom to unlock the Bonus Mission Stormpass’ Phantom of Combat. In this mission, you will have to fight Keshta the Unyielding, and upon defeating him, the Phantom will be added to your arsenal. Once you have Keshta equipped, the Phantom will automatically level up as you kill enemies and accumulate Lacrima.

However, every Phantom, including Keshta, is capped at Level 20 for their base stats. Once you hit the Level 20 cap, the Phantoms won’t level up anymore. Instead, you will only be able to upgrade (Awaken) them twice after that.

Do note that Phantoms can be awakened even if you don’t hit the level cap. To upgrade the Phatoms, i.e., Awaken them, you need to collect special Ghost Relics. For every Phantom, there are three Ghost Relics in the game. One of the Ghost Relics is used to unlock the Phantom, and the rest are used to awaken them.

However, since Keshta is unlocked automatically, he only has two Ghost Relics assigned to him. Furthermore, both these Ghost Relics can be found in The First Berserker Khazan’s late-game areas.

To Awaken Keshta the Unyielding, you need to collect two Ghost Relics called the Wild Ghost Necklace. The first of the Ghost Necklaces can be found in Lake City Aldevir in the Witch’s Castle main story mission. The second Ghost Necklace can be found in the Great Temple during the Bloodied Sanctuary main story mission. Here’s a detailed look at the locations of the Ghost Necklaces:

Ghost Necklace 1 (Lake City Aldevir)

  • From the Chaos-Infested Land Nexus, head straight to the area leading outside the castle walls.
  • You will eventually reach a water-logged area with undead enemies.
  • Progress through this area until you reach the large pillar where an undead archer is situated.
  • Kill all the enemies and you will find the Ghost Necklace at the archer’s location.

Ghost Necklace 2 (Great Temple)

  • The Ghost Necklace can be found on the Great Temple’s roof.
  • On the roof, you will find a chest tucked between two pillar-like structures.
  • Inside the chest, you will find the Ghost Necklace.

Once you obtain a Ghost Necklace, simply visit a Nexus to Awaken Keishta the Unyielding. Furthermore, upgrading other Phantoms also follows the same formula, albeit with different Relics.
