Here is how you can maximize the capability of maps in Minecraft Bedrock Edition by placing banner markers in them.

Aside from finding buried treasures, one of the most useful features of maps in Minecraft Java Edition is that you can place a banner on a map to serve as a marker. This feature allows for personalized waypoints to aid in navigation. The function is very convenient, especially if you are not using any mods and love exploration. That way, you won’t get lost and can always find your way back and forth.
Unfortunately, you cannot use a banner to mark a location in Minecraft Bedrock Edition. This feature, for now, is exclusive to Java Edition. However, there is an alternate way to do it. While it’s not as elaborate, it is still a handy way to mark locations in the game.
Here is a guide on how to put a marker on a map in Minecraft Bedrock Edition, similar to how you put a banner to mark a location in Java Edition.

How To Put Banner Marker on Minecraft Bedrock Edition
You can replicate the same functionality of banner markers from Minecraft Java Edition to Bedrock Edition by using the cartography table. Here are the step-by-step instructions on how to do it:
- Craft Empty Maps
- Duplicate the Maps As Many as You Want
- Get to the Area You Want To Mark
- Place an Item Frame on the Location
- Place the Map on the Item Frame
- Check One of Your Maps
More information about the process can be found below.
Craft Empty Maps and Item Frames
Craft multiple empty maps with six pieces of paper and place them on the crafting table. Keep in mind that the amount you need to craft is the same as the number of markers you want to place. Alternatively, you can also craft a locator map by placing an empty map with a compass in the crafting grid. However, this is a bit expensive and not required.

The next item you need to craft is item frames. You can craft one by surrounding leather with sticks on a crafting table. Alternatively, you can craft a glowing variant by placing the item frame and a glow ink sac in a crafting grid together.

Duplicate the Maps As Many as You Want
Once you have the empty maps, use them to duplicate your map on a cartography table. The amount you need is the same as the one you will use to make markers on your main map.
Get to the Area You Want To Mark Then Place the Item Frame and Map

Walk to the location where you want to place a banner marker. Make sure the area has a safe spot for where the map will be placed. The item should not be broken by fire, flowing water, or an explosion.
Once you place them, you should immediately see the markers on your maps.
