Piglins are a type of mob that spawn exclusively in the Nether. They are neutral to the player and can be quite helpful thanks to their ability to trade, or rather, barter.

Just like villagers, you can gain items from Piglins in exchange for particular resources. However, this method of trading with them is quite different compared to your traditional method of buying and selling with villagers. Here is how you can barter with Piglins in Minecraft.

How Do You Trade or Barter With Piglins in Minecraft

The first step to bartering with Piglins is wearing at least one piece of gold armor. Unless you are doing so, the Piglins will be hostile to you. However, if you are wearing some gold armor, they will be neutral towards you, and you may barter with them.

As you can probably tell from their gold implements and their hostility unless you are wearing gold, gold is highly respected in Piglin society. This is a clue to how you can trade with them. To barter with Piglins, you will need gold ingots.

If you throw these gold ingots near a Piglin or right-click on one while holding the ingot, the Piglin will take the ingot and inspect it. After six seconds (eight on bedrock edition), the Piglin will toss a random item towards you.

Unlike villagers, who trade for a plethora of resources, Piglins will exchange items only for gold ingots. Also, unlike villagers, you cannot choose what you want from a Piglin.

Additionally, if Piglins become hostile towards you, you will no longer be able to barter with them. Piglins can become hostile if you attack them or other Piglins, open or break nearby chests, or if you break nearby gold-related blocks. If you wish to farm gold, then try to do it away from Piglins.

Note that you can only trade with adult Piglins. Baby Piglins will simply run away after receiving gold, and Piglin Brutes are always hostile, regardless of whether you are wearing gold armor or not.
