Rematch is a fast-paced third-person sports game that puts a fresh spin on playing football online with your friends. Instead of managing an entire team like you do in FC, Rematch has you take control of a single player in a team of five in an online match against human opponents. Developed by Sloclap, the studio behind the hit martial arts game Sifu, the sports title introduced its immersive gameplay with a free-to-play beta ahead of the official launch on June 19, 2025. This led to speculation regarding the game’s pricing and whether it would launch as a free-to-play title.
Will Rematch Be Available for Free on Release?
Rematch will not be free on release, and its standard edition costs $29.99. The exact cost will vary according to the purchasing platform, the customer’s geographical region, and time. Although Rematch was available for free during beta testing, it was never intended to be a free-to-play game. The creative director behind the title, Pierre Tarno, believes that if their game is good enough, it will merit the cost and create a player base without having to rely on a free-to-play model.
Although Rematch isn’t available for free, it does include microtransactions that allow you to customize your character’s outfit, shoes, accessories, and progression boosts with Captain Pass Tickets. The pre-order Pro Edition ($39.99) and Elite Edition ($49.99) of Rematch come with 72 hours of early access prior to the game’s launch. They also include character customization items and Captain Pass Tickets.
However, the developers have stressed that the game is not pay-to-win and relies solely on player skill, with each in-game character having the same stats as the next. Victory in Rematch will boil down to individual skill and the teamwork between the five players against the opposing team.
Will Rematch Be Available on Xbox Game Pass?
For those looking to try out Rematch without paying full price, playing the title on Xbox Game Pass is an option to consider. The game is available on Xbox Game Pass as well as the PC Game Pass at launch. If you try Rematch out on the Game Pass and want to play it for the long term, purchasing it on Steam or another platform becomes an attractive choice.
