If, for some reason, you can’t rely on ice elemental attacks, you can also opt for Fire, Thunder, and Water based attacks, although they won’t hurt the beast quite as much as Ice attacks will. Besides that, you can also apply the poison status effect on the monster because it is most vulnerable to this particular status ailment.

Try to avoid dragon-based attacks as these tend to have no or minimal impact on the monster. Apart from that, Ice elemental and poison weapons should be your go to options during the battle.
Xu Wu Weak Points
When it comes to the weakest points of the monster’s body where you can focus your attacks, go straight for its head and mouth. You can also break off its two front arms. With proper attacks, the remaining four tentacles can be severed.
If you manage to break the beast’s front two arms at first, you’ll take away its ability to use the piercing blades on these limbs. Also, keep an eye out for when the monster exposes its mouth and focus all your offensive on this part when it appears unguarded.

How To Beat Xu Wu in Monster Hunter Wilds

When fighting Xu Wu, understanding and being able to counteract its different attacks is the key to success. You need to watch out for four diverse attacks. The first one is where the monster slams down its tentacle on the ground and then starts swinging it around along the ground. When this happens, quickly get behind the beast and unleash a flurry of attacks.
If Xu Wu jumps over you, you can be sure that it’s about to launch a number of sharp projectiles toward you. You have to dodge in the direction that Xu Wu jumps to avoid taking damage from the spikes.
Another terrifying attack is when Xu Wu swallows the hunter whole, which causes massive loss of health. As soon as you can see its mouth, target the red spot with your slinger’s frostpods. This is a weak spot that deals massive damage to the monster and stops it in its tracks.
Another attack where the monster exposes its mouth is when it just runs down the hunter. When this happens, you should get on your Seikret and flee to an area where the monster can’t see you.
After counteracting each of its moves, make sure you go for ice attacks for maximum damage. Also, break its front legs to severely limit its ability to slam down and stab you. Exploit any wounds that you see on its body to end the battle quicker. Also, focus your attacks across its weaker points while dodging out of incoming strikes.
And, if the monster is still too challenging for you, you can always shoot an SOS flare to receive a helping hand from other players.
