Monster Hunter Wilds has several monsters for you to hunt, all inhabiting the game’s massive world. As you check off the names of various monsters from your list, you may believe that you’re close to done, but you’re far from it, as the game also has special Tempered monsters, such as the Tempered Gore Magala, out in the wild.

Tempered monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds are harder versions of the normal monsters that drop important endgame items as a reward. These monsters take your knowledge of the regular monsters and put it to the test in more difficult encounters. These boss fights are catered to players who have mastered the fundamentals of the game and are seeking greater challenges and rewards.

The Tempered Gore Magala is a Tempered monster and is the harder version of the Gore Magala. While the Gore Magala was a moderate challenge, the Tempered version takes things to the next level, making it one of the hardest bosses in the game. If you’re stuck on this boss and are looking for tips to defeat it, we have you covered. In this guide, we shall go over how to defeat Tempered Gore Magala, give an overview of its weaknesses, how to unlock it, and more.

Tempered Gore Magala Overview

The Tempered Gore Magala is the harder version of the Gore Magala monster in Monster Hunter Wilds. The boss follows more or less the same few patterns as the original monster, alongside sharing the same few weaknesses and weak spots. Do not get too comfortable, however, as the creature hits harder and is far more aggressive.

Furthermore, despite sharing the same weaknesses and weak spots, your approach to beating this monster will be a tad bit different as you can’t automatically inflict wounds on the monster. Instead, you need to manually target and damage the weak spots to create Tempered wounds.

The Tempered monster is unlocked after completing the Wyvern Spark and Rose Thorns quest in Chapter 4-3 of the game. This quest acts as an introduction to the Tempered monsters, after which the monsters are available in the form of Investigations.

How To Unlock Tempered Gore Magala in Monster Hunter Wilds

As stated earlier, the Tempered Gore Magala is an endgame monster that you unlock in Chapter 4-3. You need to play through and complete the Wyvern Spark and Rose Thorns quest in the game. This game will introduce you to the Tempered monsters and will see you go up against the Tempered Lala Barina monster. After completing this quest, you can do the Tempered Gore Magala Investigation to take on the monster.

Where To Find Tempered Gore Magala?

The Tempered Gore Magala is exclusive to an Investigation in the endgame of Monster Hunter Wilds. The Tempered Gore Magala Investigation is found in the Cliffs region of the game. You’ll unlock this Investigation in the endgame after you’re done with the main story and have completed the Wyvern Spark and Rose Thorns quest in Chapter 4-3.

Tempered Gore Magala Weaknesses

The Gore Magala is a large black dragon that is just as big and terrifying as it is strong. Due to a lack of sensory organs, this black dragon uses the scales on its massive wings to detect you. Since the detection can be a bit skimpy, the creature makes up for the lack of sensory organs with unbridled aggression, using its massive wings to sweep and clear large areas, ensuring it nails its prey. The black dragon also doubles down and uses a Frenzy virus to inflict damage. If all of this sounds difficult to you, you’re in for a bad time, as the Tempered Gore Magala is all of this but tuned up to 11.

Despite all its strengths, the creature is not without its kryptonite. The Tempered Gore Magala shares the same few weaknesses as the original. The creature is weak to Thunder, Fire, and Dragon-type elemental damage. The black dragon’s head, antennae, and tail are its weakest points, so using these elemental attacks on those spots should get the job done.

Furthermore, the Tempered Gore Magala has noticeable scars on its body. Manually targeting these scars opens up Tempered Wounds, which deal massive damage.

As stated earlier, the Tempered Gore Magala shares the same few weak spots as the original creature, in addition to new scars exclusive to Tempered monsters. The creature’s head is its weakest spot, followed by its antennae and tail.

We recommend using Sever damage on the head for the highest possible damage output. If the task seems too difficult and the aggression seems insurmountable, we recommend waiting for the creature to reveal the antennae and targeting that.

Next, we recommend manually targeting the scars on its body. These scars are clearly visible and hard to miss. Strike away at these scars to open up Tempered Wounds and deal large chunks of damage. These wounds won’t pop up automatically and can only be opened up by manual targeting.

Best Weapons for Tempered Gore Magala in Monster Hunter Wilds

Noting that the Tempered Gore Magala’s weak spots are vulnerable to Sever damage, we recommend bringing in a weapon such as the Longsword or the Sword and Shield. Weapons you can use include Kuara Clairsword, Tonitrus Clairblade, Fulgurblade Guardiana, Rey Kuara II, Firetrail Fornax, Wyvern Blade Ash II, Wyvern Blade Blood I, and more.

These weapons inflict the elemental damage the monster is weak to while also doing Sever damage. Use these weapons to target the weak spots and dispose of the Tempered monster.

Before you get to targeting the Tempered Gore Magala’s weaknesses, you first need to be wary of its attacks. The first thing you need to be wary of is the Frenzy attacks. The Tempered monster breathes out Frenzy while sweeping the vicinity in a semi-circular motion. Stay ahead of the sweep to dodge this attack. This attack has a considerable charge-up time, so you also have ample time to run up behind and target the tail.

Stay behind for too long, and the creature may pounce and slam the ground with its arms. This attack happens quickly, so be wary of erratic movements and dodge. It may also swipe its claws in a 180-degree motion to attack you. The creature can also do a sudden strike with its hind legs, throwing forth a mist of Frenzy in the process. The creature punishes a lot from up front, so we suggest trying your luck dealing damage from the side and back.

If you try to run away, the Tempered monster will charge you down and bite you. This attack has two variations, and the second sees the monster covering a larger distance. You’re not safe at any distance as long as you’re in front of the creature.

The monster can also spit out Frenzy balls when you’re at a distance. This could be a single ball or in sets of three, sweeping from left to right. If it’s the latter, the monster will be locked into the animation. Quickly rush up close and target its head or scars to deal damage.

If the dragon takes to the air, brace yourself for a charged attack to your position. Time your dodge to evade at the last possible second to evade the attack.

Engraged Phase

Deal enough damage, and the Tempered Gore Magala will let out a battle cry and enter an enraged state. Two large antennae will pop up on its head, giving you a shiny new target to attack. While this may sound nice, the aggression and damage are pumped up, so you need this phase over with quick. Deal damage as fast as you can to drag the boss out of this phase. Do not prolong this phase, as the rapidly mounting aggression will be a chore to deal with.

Once the phase is over, fall back to the same strategy as the initial phase. Make sure to effectively target the scars manually to open up Tempered Wounds and take away large chunks of the monster’s HP.

  • Target the scars as often as you can. The scars stand out like a sore thumb and are easy to notice. Manually target them and deal damage to inflict Tempered Wound. These deal massive damage, so use this to your advantage.

  • The monster is weak to Thunder, Fire, and Dragon-type elements. Make sure that you’re carrying weapons of these elements and targeting the weak spots to deal the highest possible damage.

  • Be wary of the Frenzy attacks, as it will cause Frenzy buildup. Use Nulberries to negate this effect and cleanse yourself.
