Confused about the relic and statue in Avowed’s Dawntreader quest? Our guide breaks down the pros and cons to help you make the best choice

Dawntreader is a side quest in Avowed that you get when you are in Paradis. In it, you have to go to a cave in search of a missing expedition team. However, the quest soon turns into much more than a simple find-and-rescue mission. You will eventually face a dilemma where you need to choose what you want to do with a relic you acquire during the quest. In this guide, we’ll explore how each choice pans out in the game.
What To Do With the Relic in Dawntreader Quest of Avowed?

During Dawntreader, you visit a cave and find a godlike Oracle within, named Sargamis. You can talk with this mysterious individual to discover that he’s a staunch follower of Eothas. If you are unaware, Eothas was an evil god who vanished from the world centuries ago. Sargamis will ask you to find a relic, a splintered bone from the body of Eothas, which is somewhere inside the cave.
As you delve deep into the cave, you’ll find the relic. You will also stumble upon the dead bodies of the missing expedition team you were tasked with finding. It becomes clear that Sargamis killed the team and trapped their souls in a bid to bring Eothas back to the world using his Adra-powered statue. He just needs the relic to be placed inside the statue to complete his plans. At this point in Avowed, you have four distinct options to choose from.

Choices | Effect |
Insert the Relic in the statue and sacrifice yourself | Your soul will be sacrificed to power the Statue and you will die, resulting in a Game Over screen. The only benefit of the option is unlocking the Get in the Statue, Envoy trophy. |
Give Relic to Sargamis | The ritual fails and Sargamis sacrifices himself to power the Statue. |
Kill Sargamis and use the Relic to Power the Statue for the Voice in your head | After killing Sargamis, you can listen to the Voice in your head and let it fuse with the Statue. This will have an impact on the game’s story later on. |
Kill Sargamis and destroy the Statue (by overloading the three generators in the area with electricity) | This prevents the Statue from being used by the Voice and Sargamis. |
Avoid speaking to Sargamis and the Statue situation completely | You can straight away go to Ofryc after discovering what happened to the expedition team. This will mark the quest as complete. |
Which Is the Best Option for the Quest?

Given that you can loot a unique sword from Sargamis’s body in Avowed, you should choose one of the options where the godlike ends up dead. The Last Light of Day sword is a great early-game weapon to have for your playthrough. Killing Sargamis also makes sense as you get to stop him from bringing a possibly dangerous god back from the dead.
Letting the Voice in your head fuse with the statue is also a good choice. However, you don’t get to see its implications immediately but rather after the game ends. The Voice (which turns out to be Sapadal later on) will use the statue as a body and roam around the world freely. The game seems to hint that this is actually a good thing rather than a menacing outcome.
