Dragon Age: The Veilguard is just a few days away from its official release. With the game’s launch being right around the corner, developer Bioware has come out with a host of information on the game’s various versions. In particular, Bioware has released a detailed post explaining the PC version and its various features. The Veilguard is Bioware’s very first foray into the current-gen systems. Keeping that in mind, the developer has focused a lot on the PC version, making sure it meets player expectations. While Bioware has gone quite in-depth with the various options that the PC version will come packed with, they’ve skipped out on one crucial detail, the AGESA V2 requirement.
The official system requirements for Dragon Age: The Veilguard mention AGESA V2 1.2.0.7 as something that’s needed for AMD CPU users. For those who are unaware, AGESA V2 is the recently released microcode for motherboards by AMD. It’s essentially a BIOS firmware update that’s present on all motherboards manufactured after June 2022. However, for a game to mention a specific BIOS update version as one of its key system requirements is unheard of. Naturally, Bioware mentioning AGESA V2 as a requirement has some PC players confused.

What is AGESA V2
AGESA is a utility built into the BIOS firmware of most modern AMD platforms. While Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s system requirement mentions AGESA as something that’s tied to the CPU, it’s mostly related to the motherboard. AGESA V2 is the most recent iteration of the utility that was released by AMD back in June 2022. It’s a microcode update that’s present in roughly all motherboards manufactured between June 2022 and the present. This particular version of AGESA (V2 1.2.0.7) was aimed at modern AMD CPUs running Windows 11. It essentially fixes a stuttering-related issue that was caused by Windows 11’s constant polling of the fTPM.
Bioware has not mentioned any specific reason why AGESA V2 1.2.0.7, in particular, is necessary for their upcoming title. However, it might have to do with the stuttering issues present in previous versions of the utility. If you’re on an Intel-based system, you won’t have to worry about AGESA V2, as it’s specific to AMD chips. Furthermore, if you want to check the AGESA version you have installed on your PC’s motherboard, you can do so using the CPU-Z application. Although it’s possible to manually flash and update BIOS on a motherboard (granted it’s supported by AGESA V2) it’s not recommended.
Updating the BIOS comes with the risk of damaging the entire system. It should only be done if you have experience flashing and updating BIOS. A small error or miscalculation while updating the BIOS can cause a cascade of issues. As long as you have a PC that meets the minimum system requirements, you should be able to play Dragon Age: The Veilguard without much hassle.
What are Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s PC system requirements
Dragon Age: The Veilguard is built using the latest iteration of the Frostbite engine. Similar to other titles developed using the same engine, i.e., Need for Speed Unbound, Dead Space (remake), etc., The Veilguard comes with pretty beefy system requirements. Here are the official PC system requirements for The Veilguard:

It should be noted that there won’t be any pre-downloads for PC. Bioware has already confirmed that PC players will be able to download and play Dragon Age: The Veilguard on its scheduled release date – October 31, 2024. According to Bioware, the lack of PC pre-load is due to the game not shipping with any form of DRM (like Denuvo).
