An Evoker is a type of hostile mob that was added to Minecraft in its 1.11 update. They are a type of illager, who are essentially corrupt villagers, and an Evoker is one of the strongest illagers there is.

These hostile mobs rarely spawn and can be found in Woodland Mansions, which spawn in the dark forest biome. You can also find Evokers during raids, which you can start after getting the Bad Omen effect from killing a hostile mob in an outpost. The raid starts after visiting a village with the Bad Omen effect.

Here’s an article with details on the Evoker and what rewards it drops in Minecraft.

How Does an Evoker Attack in Minecraft?

The Evoker is a strong, hostile mob with 12 hearts, two more than that of a player. The pillager has a total of three types of attacks it does that can heavily damage a player. Two of the attacks use fangs that appear from the ground, and the last one spawns another hostile mob. Here are an Evoker’s attacks:

  • Fangs (Offence): The Evoker hums slowly and raises his hands while producing purple particles. After a short while, a series of fangs appears from the ground and shoots towards the player from the Evoker’s location. The attack does six hearts of damage, which is not lowered by wearing armor but can be mitigated with enchantments such as Protection. You can dodge the attack by simply moving to the side, as it only goes in a straight line.

  • Fangs (Defence): The Evoker performs the same ritual, but this time the fangs come out of the ground surrounding him. This attack can happen if you are too close to the Evoker when attacking him. Moreover, the attack happens in two circles, a smaller radius at first and then in a larger radius.

  • Summon Vexes: The Evoker raises his hands and hums in a high-pitched sound this time while producing white particles. Then a group of three Vex spawns near the Evoker and attacks the players. These are small flying mobs that can phase through walls and follow you for quite a while. Each vex can hit quite hard in every mode, and there can be eight of them at a time on screen. We recommend dealing with them as soon as they spawn in.

There is also a combo attack that is done by Evokers in Minecraft Java Edition. The Evoker uses the fangs defensively while summoning Vexes as part of the combo.

Items Dropped by the Evoker

Here are the items that can be dropped by an Evoker on death in Minecraft:

  • A Totem of Undying. This is a guaranteed drop.
  • Chance to drop a single emerald.
  • One ominous banner, if the Evoker spawns as a raid boss.
  • 10 EXP.

This concludes our guide on what an Evoker is in Minecraft.
