Inescapable Destruction allows Death Domain Cleric to override Necrotic damage resistance, increasing their versatility in Baldur’s Gate 3.

The Death Domain Cleric is one of the 12 new subclasses introduced in Patch 8 of Baldur’s Gate 3. The dark clerics are necromancers specializing in dealing Necrotic and Poison damage. However, Necrotic damage resistance is perhaps the most common type of resistance found in Baldur’s Gate 3, especially in Act 2 and Act 3. Yet, unlike other subclasses that specialize in Necrotic spells, Death Domain Clerics have a unique advantage when it comes to inflicting death and decay: Inescapable Destruction.
What is Inescapable Destruction in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Inescapable Destruction is a Death Domain Cleric passive subclass feature that allows all Necrotic spells to ignore Necrotic resistance. For example, if you attack a Vampire Spawn with Blight, it will deal the full 8d8 Necrotic damage instead of half, even though a Vampire Spawn is resistant to that damage type. Inescapable Destruction becomes available for a Death Domain Cleric at level 6. The feature also affects Necromancy spells cast using equipment items and scrolls. However, Necrotic damage will not affect creatures immune to Necrotic, such as Shadows and Wraiths.
Best Uses of Inescapable Destruction in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Death Domain Clerics specialize in dealing Necrotic damage, which makes Inescapable Destruction an invaluable feature in combat. The ability becomes especially potent because of the Reaper passive and Touch of Death. The Reaper subclass passive feature allows the cleric to target an additional creature with any Necromancy cantrip. This means that the Toll the Dead cantrip can potentially deal the full 1d12 Necrotic damage to two necromites despite their Necrotic resistance.
This advantage extends to other Necrotic spells that Death Domain Clerics gain access to while leveling up, including Channel Divinity: Touch of Death, Vampiric Touch, Blight, Bone Chill, and Divine Strike: Necrotic. To deal with enemies immune to Necrotic, use Spirit Guardians. It can deal Radiant damage, which several Necrotic Immune enemies, such as Shadows and Wraiths, are vulnerable to.
At level 5, Death Domain Clerics gain access to Animate Dead and Vampiric Touch, which are Always Prepared. These spells, combined with features like Divine Strike: Necrotic, which adds necrotic damage to weapon attacks, make the Death Domain Cleric an effective combatant against a wide array of foes throughout all Acts in Baldur’s Gate 3.
