Split Fiction has a number of concepts that have been nailed to the dot. Each level is unique in its own way, with players being able to approach the mission via different game and art styles. The boss battles during and at the end of each chapter change the pace of your play, keeping you engaged throughout the journey.

Each boss brings their own flair to the table, having you put on your thinking hats to try and put an end to them once and for all. Let’s dive straight into a ranked list of all boss fights in Split Fiction.

20. The Conductor

This is part of a side mission called Train Heist, where players are tasked with following a train to stop the heist. You are tasked with destroying the Security Defense System, termed The Conductor. The boss makes our life miserable by creating constant chaos in our path in an attempt to slow us down.

The last phase of the battle takes a leap into a platformer perspective of gameplay. Both Zoe and Mio can maneuver their way around the screen to avoid the projectiles and inflict damage on The Conductor.

19. SRI Crime Boss

This boss throws in a great reference to a Tron Legacy style of gameplay, where we get to ride futuristic bikes while leaving a trail of glowing light. The visuals are enticing and keep you locked on through the length of the fight.

The SRI Crime Boss battle is fast-paced and requires quick reactions to avoid incoming projectiles. To defeat the boss, you both have to pick up the glowing blue orbs on your path. This charges up your ray blasters to help inflict damage on the boss.

18. Mr. Hammer

Mr. Hammer

This is one of Mio’s science fiction stories. Mr. Hammer’s main weapon, as his name entails, is his hammer, through which Mr. Hammer either shoots energy beams or directly flings it at us. Through a series of patterned phases, Zoe has to use her green gravity whip to hurl the hammer back at him, and Mio has to use her purple sword to inflict damage on the stunned boss.

The boss fight also involves a fun wave of cyber dogs, which become available once Mr. Hammer reaches half-health. The mission ends with a collaborative stab and hammer whip, sending the boss straight out the window of the skyscraper.

17. Kraken

Kraken

This mission is how Mio has incorporated the story of her father into her book. He is terminally ill with no apparent way of saving him. Through the chapter, Kraken being locked up in the chamber signifies her dad being stuck in the hospital back in real life.

The aim of this mission is to help destroy the chamber in which the Kraken is encapsulated and use two boats to follow and ensure the safe escape of the three of you. The Kraken destroys a lot of machinery in your path, which you have to avoid before finally reaching the outside. Mio feels a hint of relief at the end, seeing her perceived version of her father free and happy.

16. Ice King

Throughout the chapter, Zoe keeps warning us just how dangerous the Ice King is. With brewing anticipation, we finally reach the end, where we are greeted by a cute little cat. Mio pets the cat as we wonder where the dreadful Ice King is. As soon as Mio stops petting the cat, we see how Zoe perceives an innocent cat she hated from back home as a giant sabretooth.

Memorizing the sabretooth’s patterns will ease the mission. Through the constant attacks it hurls at us, there are moments when the Ice King stays still in vulnerable positions. It is at these moments that the two of you attack the boss and end the reign of the Ice King.

15. Factory Warden

Factory Warden

The Factory Warden is a giant, eight-limbed machine that attacks in both a defensive and offensive manner. With the constant shower of ray bullets, it heightens the difficulty of getting closer. Both Zoe and Mio have to take advantage of the jump pads to leap across the arena, weakening its limbs.

Throughout the battle, there are various hindrances, including flying drones and a pool of acid. The Factory Warden is determined to exterminate you, and just when you think you’ve won, it keeps coming back. After a long and hard-fought battle, you finally claim victory by crushing it under a hydraulic press.

14. Dragon Slayer

The Dragon Slayer is a floating torso with flames underneath, on a mission to execute Mio and Zoe, who have now taken the form of little dragons. The Dragon Slayer, with the help of his sword, will try to slice and dice Zoe and Mio in their paths and create obstacles that they both have to escape.

While Zoe rolls around and distracts the Dragon Slayer, Mio has to use her flames of green mist and drain its health to finally defeat the boss.

13. The Gameshow Host

The Gameshow Host

This is another fun boss who puts forward a series of entertaining challenges. The main task at hand is to defuse the bombs by dropping them into a container. Both Mio and Zoe have to run past the hurdles in their path. They are not to keep the bomb with them for long, as this could trigger the bomb to blow up. So, the constant passing of the bombs is necessary.

The last act of the battle shows the Gameshow Host finally losing its marbles due to the two protagonists advancing through all the stages. This time, Mio and Zoe take the bomb and drop it inside the Gameshow Host’s head, ending the mission in the process.

12. The Dentist

The Dentist

This has to be one of the creepiest-looking bosses in the game. This mission, without missing a single beat, converts from a Candyland scenario to a mad doctor chasing us with the intent of torture.

Timing is very crucial in this battle, as the window for counterattacks is easily missable. The best strategy is to study the Dentist’s patterns and use them to your advantage.

11. Treasure Traitor

Treasure Traitor

This mission begins with us chasing the Treasure Traitor across a bridge, after which we are caught in a circular trap. The boss will keep hurling objects at you. You are required to escape these using Mio to neutralize the objects and Zoe to roll on them and shoot them back at the boss.

This sequence is repeated through various obstacles and situations. Using each other’s powers, you can save one another from spells cast by the boss to turn you into statues.

10. Parking Attendant

Parking Attendant
Parking Attendant (Image via Electronic Arts, Ben-Gun/YouTube)

The Parking Attendant is another boss from the second chapter. This has to be one of the finest antagonists in the game. The first phase gives a great Easter egg based on Spider-Man vs. Mysterio from the old Spider-Man (2000) game. This battle involves ascending the tower to reach the top, giving us a fighting chance against the Parking Attendant.

Each phase portrays level designs of great quality. The collaborative tasks between Mio and Zoe are taken to the next level, where Zoe has to dodge incoming projectiles and hurl objects at the boss simultaneously. Meanwhile, Mio has to make her way on top of the boss and damage it from within.

9. Monkey King

Monkey King

The Monkey King is my personal favorite boss fight in Split Fiction. There is no animosity between the characters. In fact, the Monkey King is an incarnation of a chimpanzee Zoe adored during her childhood days. After the sad demise of the chimpanzee, she wrote the character into her story as the Monkey King.

This fight is merely a three-stage dance battle. Each stage tests our might through different methods, be it via timed actions or coordinated movements. Once you pass through all the stages, the Monkey King lets you pass and enjoy the rest of the chapter.

8. Megalith

Megalith

This boss battle is a fun little flight adventure. We navigate across the rubble caused by the Megalith’s chaos, making our way through all the obstacles until we finally embark on its tail and push forward toward the front.

The final stage of the battle involves us climbing onto Megalith’s head. Your dragons will come to support by holding onto Megalith’s head, exposing its vital area, which you both need to stab in coordination. This is seemingly a fun reference to boss battles in Shadow of the Colossus, where you have to stab the weak points to damage and destroy the enemy.

7. Overseer

Overseer

This is a fun little platformer-styled battle. The Overseer keeps a watchful eye on the two of you. It occasionally throws machines at you while hiding behind the shootable area. Once you clear the machines, it peeks out from the shadows to inflict some damage on its own. This is when you get your chance to shoot its head and drain its health.

The battle requires color-coordinated attacks to destroy obstacles on your path and quick-timed leaps to avoid drowning in a pool of acid. In the last phase of the mission, you see your protagonists from the perspective of the Overseer and witness your slow demise at its hands. The various perspectives with which you get to play this mission help justify its rank.

6. Pinbawser

Pinbawser

This battle is a fun mini-game of pinball. Mio gets to control the flippers and support Zoe as she navigates around, controlling a pinball.

Throughout the mission, Pinbawser will follow Zoe, trying to destroy her with missiles and lasers. This is an enjoyable experience, requiring good coordination between the two.

5. Giant Enemy Demon/Cab/Duck

Giant Enemy Demon/Cab/Duck

The Giant Enemies are a set of fun little bosses in the middle of a side mission. This entire mission is formatted in a sketch-art style. The task at hand is to help save the captured prince. As the mission progresses, Zoe narrates the story, forming the environment with each spoken phrase. We are given the impression of watching a story unravel itself from a novel.

The final boss in this mission is an option between a Giant Enemy Duck, Crab, or Demon. You have to fight two of the bosses, and after beating them in a fairly easy manner, you save the prince and take him back home.

4. The Hydra

The Hydra
The Hydra (Image via Electronic Arts, Ben-Gun/YouTube)

This acts as a menace, constantly proving to be a hindrance throughout the entire chapter. The mission provides a seamless switch between various game modes, creating a thrilling experience. It is satisfying to finally face off against the Hydra and put an end to its reign.

The Hydras have the ability to regrow their heads each time the duo tries to chop them off. The finale of this captivating boss fight involves the duo being gobbled up and finally taking the boss down from within.

3. Dark Mio

Dark Mio
Dark Mio (Image via Electronic Arts, Ben-Gun/YouTube)

This is a dark version of Mio’s subconscious thoughts. This is one of the best boss fights in Split Fiction. Her rage toward the world for what it did to her father takes form in Dark Mio. She once used this state of mind to escape reality, but through the story, she begins to understand the concept of trust through Zoe’s kindness.

The mission requires a lot of timely dodges and attacks, with each variation of the stage getting tougher. In the last phase, Mio takes control of a robot and supports Zoe as she finally puts an end to Dark Mio.

2. .exe-QT-3.14

.exe-QT-3.14
.exe-QT-3.14 (Image via Electronic Arts, Ben-Gun/YouTube)

.exe-QT-3.14 is a boss in an arena-type setting. This is a direct follow-up battle after completing the PINBAWSER mission. At the end of the mission, we are left unconscious by a robot and wake up in the middle of an arena.

The first phase just involves us escaping each and every projectile the robot sends our way. Right after this phase, two balls come to the arena and upgrade your suit, putting you in a position to battle the boss. One of my favorite sequences from the fight is when we get to take control of the robot’s hand and clobber it.

1. Rader

CEO Rader
CEO Rader (Image via Electronic Arts, Ben-Gun/YouTube)

CEO Rader finally takes matters into his own hands as he tries to put an end to Mio and Zoe’s attempts to break the simulation machine from within. The last boss fight is the best boss fight in Split Fiction, involving a game in which he sets his own rules, making it the longest mission in the game.

The mission gives a proper fusion treatment between science fiction and fantasy, as both characters traverse various locations. This mission is fast-paced, riddling you with constant puzzles and game modes until you finally take him down. The game perfectly leads up to this moment and provides the perfect end to the story.
