Discover how to conquer the Hydra boss fight in Split Fiction’s Chapter 7, navigating its treacherous environments and challenging mechanics.
The Hollow is the seventh chapter of Split Fiction and delves into the dark recesses of Zoe’s subconscious. Your journey takes you across ominous caverns, ghost towns, and rivers of magma with the help of familiars and a well-spoken centipede.
However, the greatest challenge looms ahead as the authors brace themselves to face the hydra that embodies Zoe’s past trauma. Follow along with the guide and learn how to beat the hydra boss in Split Fiction.
Hydra Boss Fight Walkthrough
As the boss fight begins, you have to run towards each other while the hydra launches projectiles at you. When a single projectile is launched, its impact zone will be highlighted by a baleful green light. However, you need to dodge or seek shelter when it launches a barrage of projectiles. Pausing your progress to evade will make the attack easier to avoid. Taking cover under the floating platforms will negate it entirely.
When one of the heads comes in close and belches gouts of flames, it will aim where you are rather than where you are going to be. You can keep running, and they will fall right behind you. After combining the halves of the medallion, create distance between the two players in bird form to ensnare a hydra head.
Another platforming section will follow as you rush to unite the medallion’s halves once again. This time, the hydra’s standard projectile attacks will split into two as they impact, but they shoot too far apart in opposite directions to pose much of a threat. What does pose a threat is its continuous flame attack that follows you. If you slow down during platforming, it will catch up.
Ballista Section
After cutting off another head, the fight enters a 3D environment. The standard attacks’ impact area will still be highlighted, but what you need to watch out for are their beam attacks. As one head starts to fire a beam, you will have time to dodge to another lane before the beam is shot out in a straight line. Upon reaching the ballista, both players will be needed to aim it and fire.
Incoming waves of water can be helpful as they fling you into the air. Use them to cover ground rapidly. Before reaching the next ballista platform, you need to activate the golden armillary sphere with Mio and quickly grapple ahead. While heading toward the final head, the platforms to be impacted by its attacks will glow green. Use Zoe’s ability on the ground beneath the catapult to load it before climbing on and releasing it.
Inside the Hydra
After shooting the final head, you will be flung into the air by the multiplied Hydra heads. As the heads attack, dodge right, then left, and then right again before being swallowed by the central head. Inside, avoid the glowing bulbous growths by sliding left or right, jumping, and grappling. When you reach its stomach, use the raft in conjunction with Zoe’s ability to cross over.
Using double jump and dash, you can easily avoid the bile without worrying about timing your movements. While running down the cord toward the Hydra’s heart, jump to avoid the red pulses in sync with the heartbeat.
For the final section, Zoe will need to stick close to Mio as the owl creates a shield to protect them from the heart’s homing projectiles. After platforming through the area together, complete the medallion and shoot the heart using its power. When the dust settles, the authors are taken to a vision of Zoe’s childhood home, and the boss fight is complete.
