Solo Leveling is a series that has gained immense popularity in its novel, manhwa, and anime forms. Its fame can be attributed to its intricate view of a fantasy world where superhuman hunters face off against powerful monsters coming out of the gates. Over the course of the series, we follow Sung Jinwoo, an underdog protagonist who gains a mysterious system. With this, he rapidly gains power, defeating a variety of enemies and preparing for the celestial enemies threatening the world.
While Solo Leveling majorly focuses on Sung Jinwoo’s journey, several side characters add value to the series. Lee Minsung is one such person who plays a small yet memorable role in the story. So, who is Lee Minsung in Solo Leveling?
Lee Minsung is a famous actor who joined the Fiend Guild as an A-Rank Hunter in Solo Leveling. His two-faced personality and a hilarious run-in with Jinwoo early on in the series are highlights of his character. In addition, he goes on to play a much more important role in Solo Leveling: Ragnarok.
Who Is Lee Minsung in Solo Leveling?
As mentioned above, Lee Minsung is a very well-known South Korean actor and celebrity who only cares about how he appears in the public eye. Despite putting on a facade of being humble and kind, Minsung is egotistical, self-centered, and extremely selfish.
He knows how to manipulate his fans, becoming a hunter solely to divert attention from the fact that he skipped his military draft. He also thinks of himself as better than others, using his title and wealthy background to his advantage.
However, underneath his arrogance is a scared and cowardly man. Minsung is easily intimidated by powerful individuals, openly showing his inexperience in the field. While he is an A-Ranked Hunter recruited by the Fiend Guild, he is mainly chosen just for the press that follows him.

Lee Minsung’s role in Solo Leveling is minor yet memorable. He was originally shown as a contrast to Jinwoo, having earned his position merely through his fame. On the other hand, the protagonist worked hard for his powers.
In a hilariously satisfying moment where Minsung wished to triumphantly announce being an A-Rank Hunter joining the Fiend Guild, Jinwoo upstaged him. Having greatly increased his strength, the protagonist re-evaluated his rank and was one of Korea’s newest S-Rank Hunters. This news broke out when Minsung gathered the media, whose attention diverted to Jinwoo.
Hence, his master plan came crashing down. Later in the series, Minsung also takes part in the Jeju Island Raid. As one would expect, however, this was yet another spectacular failure. Having overestimated his own strength as an A-Ranker, Minsung could do nothing but panic in front of the ants.
He did not return to the series again till Jinwoo reset the timeline. In this new world, Minsung is still a famous actor, retaining most of his personality. We have already seen that Lee Minsung has the abilities of an A-Rank Hunter but has no experience in battle. Due to this, he made a fool of himself in Solo Leveling, never showing what he was capable of.
Thankfully, his abilities are shown more in Solo Leveling: Ragnarok, proving how deserving he is of his rank. Minsung possesses great physical strength, strong enough to break a table with just his hand. His senses and speed are enhanced, and he also shows enough mastery with the sword to hold his own in the Paju Dungeon.
Minsung is also smarter in Solo Leveling: Ragnarok and has shown a stronger spirit, although the root of this lies in his sinister nature. Nevertheless, it has still helped him become a much more formidable individual than his alternate version in the original Solo Leveling.
Lee Minsung’s Significance in Solo Leveling: Ragnarok
Solo Leveling: Ragnarok has returned several characters from its predecessor, though they play widely different roles in this timeline. Lee Minsung is one glaring example, starting similarly as a popular actor.
However, with the reappearance of gates, Minsung becomes an A-Rank Hunter while his driver Lim Tae-Gyu becomes an S-Rank. Minsung accepts Tae-Gyu’s offer to join the Fiend Guild as a Vice Master but gains an inferiority complex because of the rising gap between him and his former driver.
To regain happiness and remove Tae-Gyu from the equation, Minsung allies with Tiel, an Apostle of the Itarim. Helping him with the distribution of Stardust, a performance-enhancing drug, Minsung stoops to new lows due to his selfishness. As a result, it is only a matter of time before he fights against Suho, the heir of the Shadow Monarch and the protector of peace.
Hence, Lee Minsung is the first major antagonist Sung Suho will face in Solo Leveling: Ragnarok. He may be a much eviler version of his former self in the original timeline but turns into much more memorable while showcasing the grand schemes of the Itarim.
