Does Boruto have a Byakugan? Learn the answer to this question, along with the other Dojutsu techniques used by him.
Boruto Uzumaki, the son of Naruto and Hinata, is the titular protagonist of his series. Despite initially being a spoiled child, he quickly grows to become a powerful figure who can face the celestial antagonists threatening Konoha. However, due to his connection with the Otsutsukis and the Hyuga Clan, a common question arises — does Boruto have a Byakugan?
Boruto does not have a Byakugan, but he gains it when he is possessed by Momoshiki. Additionally, he has another Dojutsu Technique of his own. Here is a closer look.
What Is the Byakugan?
The Byakugan is an iconic ability that has been relevant ever since the first Naruto anime. It is considered among the Three Great Dojutsu along with the Sharingan and the Rinnegan, which speaks volumes of its strength and importance.
The Byakugan originally came from the Otsutsuki Clan but has become a staple of the Hyuga Clan, which has descended from the celestial beings. This kekkei genkai is present in individuals since birth, easily identifiable by its distinctive white appearance.
The Dojutsu is known for its enhanced perception abilities, where users get a 360-degree vision of their surroundings. It can penetrate through objects and examine the condition of a target’s body. This forms the core of its analysis of the Chakra Pathway System, with which the chakra points of others can be assessed.
Those of the Hyuga Clan have created the Gentle Fist technique to complement the skill to see the Chakra Pathway System. With this ability, Hyugas can manipulate their opponent’s chakra, making them lose control of their body and suffer swift defeat.
While the Hyuga Clan was certainly impressive with the Byakugan, its full potential was revealed through Kaguya Otsutsuki. She used this along with the Infinite Tsukuyomi to control the majority of the world and could even subdue others by emitting chakra through her eyes.
Does Boruto Have a Byakugan?
Now that we have seen the strength of the Byakugan, the question arises of whether Boruto Uzumaki has the ability. Boruto is the son of Hinata Hyuga, a renowned Byakugan user in the Naruto universe. Hence, many believed he would inherit the Dojutsu through his genes.
However, shockingly enough, Boruto was not born with the Byakugan. The reason for this is hilarious since Kishimoto revealed he simply forgot to give the ability to Hinata’s son. At the same time, Boruto does gain the ability to use the Byakugan, though there are debates on whether the ability is his.
Since Boruto has Momoshiki’s Kama, he is possessed by the Otsutsuki at certain moments in the story. During these scenes, Boruto’s right eye turns into a Byakugan, giving him the powers of the Dojutsu.
While this assists Boruto in his rapid surge of power, it is hard to say that it is his Dojutsu. Since the ability only manifests when Momoshiki possesses him, it is not something he can use as willingly as other Byakugan users. However, Boruto has another Dojutsu of his own to balance out his lack of a Byakugan.
Which Uzumaki Has a Byakugan in Boruto?
Since Boruto doesn’t have the Byakugan naturally, it only makes sense for another character carrying the Hyuga bloodline to inherit the legacy of the eyes. Therefore, as many fans predicted, Boruto’s sister — Himawari Uzumaki — dynamically awakened the Byakugan in the anime.
Angry at her brother for tearing her toy, she unveiled these eyes while creating killing intent that instilled extreme fear in Boruto. As the boy attempted to flee from his sister, his father tried to protect him. Unfortunately, the Hokage got caught in the crossfire, getting hit by Himawari’s Gentle Fist and fainting.
This comedic series of events portrayed the immense potential Himawari holds with the Byakugan. While she could initially only activate it through intense emotions, she has learned to willingly control it.
What Dojutsu Does Boruto Have?
Notwithstanding the argument of whether Momoshiki’s Byakugan is Boruto’s, the protagonist has his own Dojutsu. This is the Jogan, which activates in his right eye. It should be noted that the Jogan is present in Boruto’s main body’s right eye, while the Byakugan is only shown in his eye when Momoshiki’s Kama is used and a horn protrudes from his head.
Translating to Pure Eye, the Jogan allows Boruto to instantly react to danger and perceive chakra. Similar to the Byakugan, it can read the Chakra Pathway System and assess the critical points. As an added benefit, the Jogan can also see through dimensional barriers, and its powers are not affected even if the eye’s original state is damaged.
Conclusion
Despite his lineage, Boruto Uzumaki did not inherit a Byakugan, making him an exception among Hyuga descendants. At the same time, he does gain the ability to use it through his connection with Momoshiki. His sister Himawari, on the other hand, possesses the Dojutsu and has demonstrated its power.
However, Boruto has something unique: his Jogan, a mysterious eye technique that doesn’t fall short of the Byakugan. As the series proceeds, fans will be hoping to learn more about this new Dojutsu as well as Himawari’s progress with her Byakugan.
