In this guide, we shall go over how to find the missing expeditioner in Clair Obscur Expedition 33 so you can unlock the Merchant items.

Clair Obscur Expedition 33’s world is one terrorized by the Paintress. Each year the Paintress paints a number, and each year those of the same age perish. Now, the number is 33, and you and your party set out to stop the Paintress and bring an end to this madness.
Without going into too many spoilers, the expedition gets off to a rocky start and a lot of expeditioners go missing. As you progress through the main story and clear out all the levels, you find the missing expeditioners, slowly rebuilding your party to get back on track.
Upon finding a few, you head to the Merchant to prepare for the road ahead, only for the shop items to be locked. Instead of letting you view and purchase the items, a message saying “find an expeditioner” shows up in the shop. If you’ve encountered this while browsing the Merchant’s inventory, and wish to know more about this, we’re here to help. In this guide, we shall go over how to find the missing expeditioner in Clair Obscur Expedition 33.

As stated, visiting the Merchant and browsing the inventory shows you the “find the expeditioner” message. This means that the item you wish to purchase cannot be used by the characters you currently have, and instead is for an expeditioner you need to find. To find these missing expeditioners, you must play the main story and progress through the quests. Through these quests, you will recruit these expeditioners, and consequently, their associated items in the Merchant’s shop.
Below, we’ve listed all the expeditioners in the game, the section of the story you find them in, as well as the level.
- You find Lune in the Spring Meadows during Act 1.
- You find Maelle in the Flying Waters during Act 1.
- You find Sciel in the Gestral Village during Act 1.
- You find Verso in the Stone Wave Cliffs during Act 1.
- You find Monoco in Monoco’s Station during Act 2.
Spoilers: If items are still locked after unlocking all the characters, it means that they were intended for Gustave. Gustave leaves the party towards the end of Act 1. You can access his items by loading an old save, or through NewGame+.
