Wolf armor protects your tamed wolves in Minecraft, offering durability and style. Learn how to craft, equip, and repair it.

Companions since the earliest days of Minecraft, wolves fight alongside the player once tamed using bones. However, the possibility of losing them in a fight emerges as a constant source of anxiety and prevents many from using them for combat. This concern is eased with the use of wolf armor, which functions differently from player armor and is very simple to craft and repair.
Wolf Armor Crafting Ingredients

To craft wolf armor, you will require six Armadillo Scutes. These can be collected by using a brush on an armadillo. Carry multiple brushes since one will break after collecting four scutes. Armadillos spawn in the Savanna and Badlands biomes. You only need to find one armadillo, as they can drop an infinite number of Armadillo Scutes without a cooldown period.
Wolf Armor Crafting Recipe

Open the crafting table and fill the following spaces of the crafting grid with Armadillo Scutes: left column, center row, and bottom right slot. While holding the wolf armor, right-click (use button) a tamed wolf to equip it. The wolf armor offers +11 protection, which is equivalent to the protection offered by a full set of Golden Armor, more than Leather Armor and less than Chainmail Armor. However, its protection functions vary differently from player armor.
Key Features of Wolf Armor

Here are all the features and important details about wolf armor you should be aware of:
- A wolf wearing armor will not take damage from physical sources until the armor breaks.
- The armor has 64 points of durability and loses 1 durability for each point of damage absorbed.
- Right-clicking damaged armor with an Armadillo Scute will repair it for 8 durability points.
- Wolf armor can be dyed to any color, similar to leather armor.
- Place wolf armor in a crafting grid with a dye to add the corresponding color.
- In Bedrock Edition, dye the armor by using it on a cauldron with dyed water. Using it on a cauldron with regular water will remove the dye.
- Wolf armor cannot be enchanted in Survival mode.
- Use (right-click) shears on a wolf to remove its armor. This completes the ‘Shear Brilliance’ achievement.
- Earn the ‘Good as New’ achievement by repairing damaged wolf armor.
- If the wolf wearing it dies, it drops the wolf armor.
