Counterspell is an Abjuration Spell which allow’s the caster to nullify another creature’s spell as a reaction. To get the Staff of Interruption in Baldur’s Gate 3 you’ll need to progress through the game into Act 3 and then visit Old Garlow’s Place in the city to start the Help the Hag Survivors quest. Old Garlow’s Place is in the central-south portion of the city, almost directly south of the Lower City Central Wall waypoint. You cannot enter through the front door. You’ll need to work your way around the west side of the building, were towards the back you’ll find a hole in the wall blocked off by some bookcases. You can easily destroy the bookcases with a couple of Fire Bolts.
Inside, you’ll immediately trigger a dialogue cut scene with the small group inside. They will be immediately suspicious of you and prepare to attack, but you can convince them to back down by passing a 15DC Persuasion or Intimidation check. The group leader will tell you about Mayrina, whom you may have previously met in Act 1. Unfortunately, Mayrina has been cursed and turned into a sheep and can’t speak at the moment. Help the Hag Survivors
If you’ve got a Potion of Animal Speaking, drink it before going upstairs and speaking to the sheep. Mayrina still can’t talk very well, but tells you something about a doll. You should be able to find a kind of voodoo-type doll somewhere in the room, which is keeping Mayrina cursed. If you have a Cleric or a Scroll of Remove Curse, you can cast this on the doll to remove the spell on Mayrina. Supposedly, you can also attack the doll to remove the curse. However, when I tried this destroying the doll resulted in a dead Mayrina.
A secondary way to free Mayrina, if you don’t have access to Remove Curse, is to discover the traitor in the group. Look for Jalto, the Dragonborn member of the group. You can pickpocket a note from him that reveals he is in contact with the hag. Speak with him to confront him, and he turns into a redcap and attacks the group. After defeating him, the curse on Mayrina should safely break. Go upstairs and talk to her, and afterwards she will reward you with the Staff of Interruption!
